Chapter Nine

When we arrived in Australia, Demi's mood seemed to shift. She reverted back to the outgoing girl that was always smiling. At first I was somewhat relieved, but as the days passed I realized it was a facade and she was just faking for everyone's sake. And then one day, it was replaced by genuine happiness. It was as if a switch had been flipped. It didn't take long to figure out what had happened.

She'd met someone.

Ruby Rose was a force of nature and I completely adored her. She showed up in Demi's life at the exact right moment. It was one of those cliche rock star meets model situations, but they clicked instantly and the chemistry was undeniable.

I made my way down the hallway only to be almost trampled by Nick and Demi as they ran at a dead sprint, naked I might add, as Joe chased them with a video camera. I had no idea what they were doing and I didn't want to know. They were insane.

I walked into the dressing and smiled at Ruby.

"Hey." She said as I grabbed a cup of coffee.

"Hi." I smiled. "Do you have any idea what they are doing?" I asked.

"Umm, no not really." She laughed. "It was a dare though."

"Ahh." I said with a nod.

"So...are you and Demi a thing? I asked kind of awkwardly.

"A thing?" She questioned.

"Umm yeah. Like...together?"

I sounded like an idiot.

"Ohhhhh." She said when she understood. "I guess. Well, I mean she asked me out or whatever and I like her so..."

"Good." I smiled. "Keep it low key. She can get in trouble. I know you're out and that's great but she's not allowed to be. It's complicated."

"That sucks." She sighed.

"Yeah. In more ways than one." I mumbled as I plopped on the couch.

That was the last time Ruby and I would have a descent conversation in relation to that particular subject. It was probably the single most difficult aspect of managing the band. Keeping Demi in the closet was stupid and made no sense but it's what the suits wanted, so she agreed. It was my job to keep her compliant. I would fail miserably.

Before either one of us could say anything else, Demi and Nick burst through the door laughing loudly. Nick was wearing nothing but a towel and Demi had on a robe.

"Did you see their faces?" Nick said as he tried to catch his breath.

Demi laughed harder in response.

"What did you guys do." Ruby asked.

I couldn't help but smile at how out of breath they were. They both looked happy.

"We streaked passed the lines of fans outside." Demi explained once she regained her composure.

Nick started laughing again.

"Seriously?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.

They both continued laughing as they nodded. I couldn't help but crack up with them.

"Dude, their fucking jaws were on the ground." Demi grinned.

They gave each other a high five and sat on one of the couches.

"You guys are unbelievable." Ruby chuckled. "There's bound to be some interesting photos I'm going to assume?"

"You should have seen it babe." Nick grinned proudly. "Joe filmed it. I'll have him show it to you."
