Anime: Banana Fish
Honestly, there weren't enough fanfics out there. So when I complained to my beloved otaku friend, she suggested that I write one and contribute to the fanbase.

DarkWolfzillat for you this one shot wouldn't have existed.

Many have dubbed (Y/N) as a reckless suicidal maniac. She preferred to call herself a daring individual who would fight for what she was passionate about. However, there were times where even she accepted that she was indeed a reckless suicidal maniac. For example, when she first met Ash Lynx, the leader of New York's street gangs.

It was no secret that she was an aspiring journalist. (Y/N) had received an internship at a well selling newspaper but all she was asked to do were errands. Not to mention, she had competition with the other interns. So when she heard rumors of the notorious street gangs, she knew that they would be the perfect subject for her debut article. She lacked intel so being the reckless dummy she is she decided to stalk some members.

Obviously, she was caught because she lacked stealth. The next thing (Y/N) knew was that some blonde pretty boy was holding a knife to her neck. His eyes were green like the sea. His hair was the color of lemons. He was Ash Lynx. Seventeen of age just like her. Fortunately for her, he let her go. She never forgot that first meeting which was the start for everything.

(Y/N) dropped her interest in upgrading her status at the newspaper office and focused on this boy who had intrigued her. She met up with him the next day to apologize. She wanted to learn more about Ash, to do so she had to build trust. It was exhausting and took a lot of time. She had to arrange accidental encounters and be extremely wary of what she said. She always spoke the truth knowing that lies were lines that Ash could find out.

Thus, they formed an acquaintance.

Present day

"Hey Shorter!" The (H/C) girl waved frantically. The Asian chuckled.

"(Y/N), Ash is out." He said making the girl groan."But he told me to come over. I even had to cancel a date for this guy." She stretched her limbs without noticing Shorter's change. "You have a boyfriend!" He yelled in shock.

"No!" (Y/N) yelled back. "It was a blind date with some random guy my friends are trying to hook me up with."

A whistle was heard. (Y/N) knew very well who it was but chose to ignore them. An unfamiliar hand on her shoulder made her turn abruptly. She glared into the eyes of Arthur Frederick. "No need to be salty. You're not that hot," he said with a sneer.

"Then leave me alone, peasant." (Y/N) hissed.

Arthur clutched his fists tightly. It was quite obvious that he was holding back. If Ash were to hear about this, he would be dead. It was quite obvious that Ash had feelings for the dense girl despite not admitting it.

"What's going on here?" A familiar voice rang out.

Ash

(Y/N) surpassed a smile. She was relieved that he was her but he didn't need to know that. She turned to his direction and marched towards him. He held a smirk while her features showed mock rage. She jabbed an accusing finger into his chest. Making everyone else wince. Ash, however, did not retaliate instead he just watched amused.

"Where the hell were you?" (Y/N) huffed.

"I was busy," he said. "Wait outside, I'll come."

The girl scowled but complied. When she left the room, Ash's demeanor changed. Arthur received a rather nasty glare which was way worse than (Y/N)'s. "If you ever lay a finger on her again, I'll kill you." The threat wasn't empty. It was genuine. Ash left the room.

-Time Skip-

The two stood outside with nothing to do. Ash leaned on his bike while (Y/N) just stood by his side. Their friendly atmosphere made them look like a couple even if they weren't. (Y/N) was still miffed and Ash remained silent.

"So what do you want to do today?" (Y/N) asked.

"Nothing really." Ash shrugged.

"You're boring" she muttered.

"What did you say, hag?" He growled.

"If I'm the hag then you're the geezer," she shot back."Honestly, I sacrificed my sweet time for you,"

"All you do is watch anime," Ash sighed.

"Anime is an art!" She yelled gaining the attention of a few bystanders. "Try watching Your Lie in April. I bet even you will cry,"

"Pfff..." Ash snickered. "As if,"

"Let's go for a drive," the blonde spoke up after a few moments of silence.

"Y-you mean on your bike," the (H/C) haired girl stammered nervously.

"Does it look like I own a car," he deadpanned. Ash tossed the girl a helmet and gestured her to get on. "Hold on tight," Ash said before taking off. The girl screwed her (E/C) eyes shut and gripped onto his torso with all her might.

(Y/N) opened her eyes after some time. Everything went flashing by. She felt a hand on her arms. The girl tightened her grip on the boy and snuggled her face into his back with a small smile.

They stopped after some time. (Y/N) recognized the area as the Central Park. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. It was unusual for Ash to bring her to such a place. "There's something I want to show you," Ash said leading her into the park. The lush green leaves rustled gently as the went deeper and deeper.

Ash stopped in front of a bush and crouched down. His wide shoulders blocked (Y/N)'s view. She tilted her head to the side to catch a glimpse. Ash was petting a kitten of yellow-brown fur. It's wide eyes gazed up at Ash. The unexpected tender sight brought warmth to her chest.

"Is that a stray?" (Y/N) asked as she pushed a strand of hair behind her ear.

"No, it could be a runaway," Ash said. The girl would have taken his statement as a sarcastic remark if it weren't the desolate expression he was wearing. (Y/N) crouched next to him.

The kitten turned to her. It hid behind Ash's foot. The blonde picked it up and cuddled it in his arms. "Is this what you were busy with?" (Y/N) asked with a smile. A small blush dusted across Ash's cheeks as he pouted. "Yeah, got a problem with that?" He huffed.

"Not at all," the girl laughed. She too started to play with the little kitten.

-Time Skip-

The day ended with (Y/N) adopting the kitten. Ash called him Carmel probably for his fur color. (Y/N) knew that Ash's place was too cramped for the little kitten. Carmel seemed to be adaptive as he fit right into her apartment which she shared with a friend.

The girl took out her laptop to watch the fifteenth episode of Your Lie in April. Towards the end, she noted Kousei's words describing Kaori as a cat. (Y/N) couldn't help but think of Ash like that as well. She remembered that his last name Lynx is literally a wildcat.

Carmel had disappeared into the corners of her apartment leaving her alone. She took out her phone and started to type a message for the blonde:

You're just like a cat. If I approach you, you turn tail and head far away. When you're hurt, you get all playful as if you were trying to share your pain. That's why I feel so much love for you.

Her finger hosted over the send button. Was this okay? Should she do it?

"Awe~, whose cat is this?" the voice of her roommate bounced through the hall startling (Y/N). She quickly glanced at her phone and to her horror, she had sent the message. The girl shrieked and dropped her phone.

"Are you okay?" her roommate asked.

(Y/N) couldn't answer. she buried her head into the cushions of her couch and started to make weird sounds. A chime was heard. A message from Ash. She opened it with cold sweat. There was only one word.
