"Jenna, you're going to be interviewing with Ryan at the Kitchener radio station and he has all the award info, same with Matt in London. Eric is in town and will be at sound check for three thirty." Courtney handed me a list of the radio for the next few days as we finished up the Canadian dates for this tour. "How was home?" She asked, handing me a macchiato from the drive through.
"Thank you. So good to be home. I swear my boys are going through growth spurts. Again." We made our way into the Kitchener radio station, "My, you are tall," I said, shaking the hand of the radio host, "how are you, it's so nice to be here." We talked about the nods, the video concept and into the rest of the album. "I have exciting news that the next single will be released tomorrow, so stay tuned - I hope y'all love it." After a picture we moved onto the next radio stop in London then onto sound check. The hype of the CMT awards became all anyone wanted to talk about, but it was a lot of fun being back in the game for awards season.
"What's the next single?" Eric asked me as we got ready for sound check.
"It's going to be Those Were the Nights. I didn't want to hint at it too much but I feel like everyone is gonna say 'It should've been Unfixable,' and really that song is going to make its own waves but it's not a nice radio song to hear on repeat. I think it's really angry." He laughed and agreed with my choice, saying Those Were The Nights was actually his favourite song off the album. We decided to sing California for our duet and got practicing. The first show back was exciting and so high energy. The crowd loved Eric and we moved onto Michigan. This leg seemed to be racing by as we were already celebrating a week of the new single being out.
"Two hundred thousand streams in a week, amazing" Courtney smiled, "We have Gen X Music Magazine coming by the venue this afternoon for an interview." I smiled as she handed me a paper.
"Who's the guest today?"
"Chris Young. You guys agreed to perform Think of You." Courtney looked at me,"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, just super tired."
"Well go sleep, please, we have time for you to rest before the interview." I took Courtney's direction and got under the covers of my bed. I must have been really out of it because my head hit the pillow and I was out like a light. I came to with Courtney calling me name and patting me on the shoulder.
"Heavens girl you were out." She smiled, we are at the venue. "Chris is on his way and the interviewer is just getting set up." I changed quick and threw on enough make up to look presentable before meeting with the reporter and then Chris. We did sound check, caught up a bit and broke for dinner.
Once I got back into the rhythm, time began to move faster. Face Time helped Beckett cope and Sutton was asking Hunter about doing the youth open mic at the CMA fan fest. "What do you think Jen? I told her we had to discuss it together."
"I appreciate that. I mean, I'm cool with it if you are. I'm proud of her." I said, Hunter agreed. "Just make sure the song she picks is appropriate." He agreed and I headed off to get ready for tonight's show in Lafayette. I was excited to be nearing the last show for this leg in Memphis with Hunter and the kids.
"I just confirmed your two radio interviews tomorrow," Courtney said, following me into the dressing room for dinner, hair and make up, "how are you feeling?"
"I'm doing better than I was last week. Where's Norah?" I realized I hadn't seen Norah for most of the day and Courtney was the one grabbing me coffee and keeping me on track.
"She just needed a break, I think she's just tired."
"Well, let me know if she needs anything or whatever."
Before I took the stage I asked Kyle, "Just want to check in, am I being a total monster and not realizing it?" He shook his head, and reassured me I am being my normal, relatively laid back self. That cleared my conscience that I did something to upset Norah. We took the stage and the crowd was wonderful. Dustin took the stage to do our duet and I closed with Wildflower before being called up for an encore. I grabbed my acoustic guitar and headed back on stage. "Hey Lafayette, I had a feeling you wanted another song out of me." They cheered, "This is the first song I ever learned on guitar, it's called You Belong With Me." The crowd sang along and I took a bow and headed off.
"Awesome," Kevin high fived me, "you ready to head to out?"
"Not quite, I need to find Norah."
"She left." I heard Courtney from behind me and I turned around.
"What do you mean?" My tone wasn't friendly and laid back. Courtney handed me a white envelope and shrugged. "This is ridiculous. I'm done for the night. I'm sorry - Just leave me alone. I'll be on the bus in ten."
Everyone dissipated, including Courtney and I shoved the letter in my bag, gathered my belongings, changed and headed on the bus for Jackson.
