Fort Santiago

Intramuros is known as a walled city in Manilla, Philippines. Fort Santiago was built in the 16th century for "Miguel López de Legazpi" – the Spanish conquistador. Fort Santiago stands for the valor and proud of Filipino history. Before 1570 there was a wooden fort at the place of current Fort Santiago. Muslim chieftain of pre-Hispanic Manila, Rajah Sulaiman made this. After the Spanish invasion Muslims defeated to Spaniards and then Fort Santiago was built as a defense fortress and the city was fortified in 1651.

José Rizal, the great leader of Philippine, spent his last days here. In December 30, 1896 this brave heart walked on the ground of bronze from his cell to the place of his final destination. His footsteps still heard in the way from the cell towards the place of his execution. Many people in this fort followed the sound of his footsteps, they often felt cold while following, some of them demanded they touched this great forever soul in this Fort. It is also reported some died in fear in there too.

Many civil and soldiers were imprisoned and tortured to death in this haunted fort. By American attack in 1985 the city of Intramuros was turned to ashes and thousand was killed brutally. It is heard soldiers in old dress of the time of World War II still patrol in the night. The history of tortures still repeats itself into the haunted walls of For Santiago in every night.
