Psalm 141:8 "But I fix my eyes on you oh, sovereign LORD in you I take refuge - do not give me over to death."
A lady went up to her pastor right after church and said: "I'm not going to attend here anymore.".
The Pastor replied:" why not".
The lady said: " during worship, people are sitting instead of standing, they are on their I Phones typing away... Nobody is worshiping during worship
The Pastor said: "will you just do one thing for me?"
The Lady replied, " sure, anything."
The Pastor turned to the coffee station and filled a cup up to the top with hot water and said: "will you walk around the perimeter of the church and don't spill one drop of this water and bring it back to me?"
The lady replied "sure."
She went away with a full cup and came back in several minutes and gave it back to the Pastor.
He asked her " on your walk did you spill any?"
" No," she said proudly.
The Pastor asked, " how many people were using their phones while on your walk?"
" I don't know," she said puzzled.
The pastor continued "why not?" he asked.
She said, " I was looking at my coffee cup, trying not to spill it."
The Pastor replied, "Exactly, you were paying close attention to the cup to notice what others were doing. So should it be with your worship? How much more important is the King of Kings and His throne? You should be so focused on him that you don't notice what others are doing!"
We need to be so concerned with our own Christian walk than with those of others. Even Jesus had to teach this to the disciples in John 21: 22 when Peter is inquiring of another disciples walk ." Jesus said to Peter "if I want him to remain until I come back what is it to you? You follow me."
Even then with that rebuke, the Bible says a rumor spread amongst the believers that the disciple Jesus and Peter we're talking about was going to remain until Jesus returned. Which was not even what was said! But isn't that just like a group of Christians in our day?
When our very own souls are at stake what makes us look at other people? We have all done it at one time or another. It's Satan's trick for us, so our eyes are not on what matters most- Jesus. Satan puts our eyes on other people, our situations, our cars, our bills, our kids, our fears, our health, our family, our wants, our addictions, our education, or our WHATEVER, as long as it's not on Jesus.
You need to get up first thing in the morning and look to Jesus and ask Him to spend every minute of this day with you. Just give it up! Surrender your day to Him! Psalm119:37 says "turn my eyes away from worthless things and give me life in your ways."
This reminds me of a Twila Paris song- Keeping my eyes on you.
Lord, I'm keeping my eyes on you
Following you
Following youLord, I'm keeping my eyes on you
Following you
Following you
Lord, I won't look to the left or right
My only goal is keeping you in my sight...Psalm 16:3 " I keep my eyes always before the Lord."
Dear Jesus,
Lord I ask for forgiveness for times when my eyes have strayed away from you or times I have looked down on others when I should have been looking at you. Thank you for being there for me and keeping me from death but living with you in victory every day.Dusty
