Chapter 1
The sounds of a moving van awakened Calum. He was a very light sleeper, and there was usually no one up at that time.
The sun was barely starting to rise and he decided to go check on what the ruckus was. The house next to his was for sale, but now it was not, and Calum wanted to greet his new neighbor.
Calum made sure he looked decent, and headed out. He walked over, and knocked on the door. "One second!" A female's voice called, as Calum waited patiently.
Calum's eyes widened at the beautiful girl in front of him. She had green eyes, and long dirty blonde hair. She smiled, and Calum thought how lucky he was. "The name's Charlotte, but call me Charlie or Charles, I think Charlotte's too proper," She grinned and Calum chuckled. "I think it's beautiful." Charlie smiled, "Well, thank you. Now tell me yours, so I can complement it."
"Calum," He told her with a grin. "Calum Chambers?" Charlie attempted to joke, luckily Calum understood it. "I take that as a complement, I love football."
"Thank god, I don't think I would have liked you, if you didn't like soccer," She chuckled. Her eyes widened, running her hands over her face. "Look at me! I'm so rude, come in, come in, it's too early. Please, have a cup of coffee, or tea. Whatever you'd like."
Calum was seated in the kitchen. He thanked her when she handed him a cup of tea. Charlie preferred coffee, drinking it slowly. "So where did you move from?" Calum asked, striking up a conversation. She gulped, the coffee warming her up. "New York, actually. I was born in California, but my dad moved for a job opportunity twice, so, yeah here I am." "Where are your parents?" "My dad's asleep upstairs, jecklag and such," She replied.
"Well, then you should get some rest also, it's six in the morning." Calum said, standing up. Charlie quickly stood up, "No, no! It's okay, I would usually get up this early anyways. Can you show me where," She paused thinking of the name of her new school. "Norwest Christian College is?"
Calum smiled, "Yeah, of course! I go to that school too, you can meet my mates. I have a band, it's called 5 Seconds of Summer," "A band? Woah! What do you play?" "Bass," He told her, and Charlie smiled. "That's so cool! Can you play for me one of these days?" Calum looked at her suspiciously, "I don't know, you could be an axe murderer."
Charlie laughed, "I guess you'll have to find out. Anyways, I'm going to go upstairs and change, so you can watch some television in the living room, or go back to your place. Whatever you'd like."
Calum nodded, making his way to the living room. After about ten minutes later, she walked to the living room. "Ready?" Calum asked her.
"Ready." "My car, or yours?" Charlie shrugged. "Yours, so can show me the way to school?" Calum nodded, opening her door. "Quite the gentleman, aren't you?"
Calum chuckled moving to his side of the car. "So what kind of music do you listen to?" He asked her, the radio was turned off, and he was curious. "One second," Charlie said, digging around in her bag.
"Aha!" She said, pulling out a CD. Nevermind. "That's one of my favorite albums," Calum said, as she placed the CD in the player. Charlie smiled, "Same,"
After five songs, they arrived at school. "It's still kind of early, school starts at seven-thirty, maybe I can show you around?" Calum asked her. She nodded, and they walked to the office to get her schedule.
Calum opened the door for her, and Charlie thanked him. "Hello Miss," Calum smiled at the way she said hello, it was perky with her American accent, and he loved it. "I'm Charlotte Wyatt, I'm here to get my schedule?"
"One moment, love," The secretary told her, looking through some files. She handed her a piece of paper with her classes, "Do you have someone to show you around?" Charlie nodded, "Yes, Calum will," The secretary smiled, "Okay, have a nice day!"
Calum showed her all of her classes, they had four classes together. The canteen, the library, and the soccer fields.
"We still have fifteen minutes, maybe we can go find my friends?" Charlie nodded, "Sure." They walked over to a group of boys.
"Who's this?" Ashton asked, giving Charlie a warm smile. "Lads, this is Charlie, Charlie this is Luke," He pointed to a boy with blonde hair, "Ashton," A boy with brown curly hair and dimples like Luke. "And Michael," He gestured towards a boy with bright blue hair.
"Hello," She said, and Calum smiled once again. "So I hear you're all in a band?" Michael' eyes brightened, "Yeah, 5 Seconds of Summer. And I came up with the name," He stated proudly. Of course, the lads didn't get much female attention, and when they did, they would try to impress.
"That's so cool! And I like your hair, by the way," Charlie said to Michael. He grinned, blushing. He touched his hair to make sure it was okay.
"So, where you from? Not from Sydney I'm assuming from you're accent." Luke told her. "I'm actually from New York. I was born in California, but I moved when I was twelve." Charlie replied.
The bell rang and the boys groaned. "What class do you have?" Michael asked her. "Chem," "Same, can I walk with you?" She nodded and they said goodbye to the other boys.
