October 5, Friday

"Do you find it strange that we celebrate our birthdays every year when it fact they just bring us closer to our death day?"

Jack broke out from his daydreaming, his gaze tearing away from the sky as Mikey decided to speak out.

"What do you mean?" he asked looking at his curly best friend who pulled a questionable mopey look at him.

They were currently sitting near the ledge, chilling at their secret spot by the principal's office rooftop. It was lunch time, which meant they cannot be bothered to mingle or socialize with other people---who were not one another that is. Besides, no one really talks to them at school in general, so why even bother to be situated with those ignorant bandwagons.

"I mean, I just find it fascinating that we celebrate our birthdays and be happy about it, undermining the fact that each moment, we get older and closer to our inevitable end." Mikey frowned, making Jack chuckle in amusement. Trust Mikey to ponder about these types of things.

Jack decided to sit up, removing his back from laying on the dirty floor as he began fondly stroking Mikey's curls. "Instead of thinking about it that way, why not think of it as celebrating your birthday because you survive one heck of a distressful year? How's that?"

Mikey pouted at the other's affectionate gesture, sighing before nodding, "Well, I guess, you're right."

Jack hummed, smiling as he asked, "So how did your classes go today?"

He saw Mikey grimaced, sighing once more, "It was very frustrating. I failed my Math test again." Jack quietly wrapped his best friend into a soothing hug, the other leaning his head on his chest perplexedly. Grumbling, the raven boy complained, "Why am I so dumb, Jack? I don't get it at all. My classmates do not seem to have a hard time learning. I seemed to be the only one..."

Mikey paused before chuckling darkly, "What would my parents say to me?"

The brunette boy hushed his distressed friend, muttering, "You're not dumb, Mikey. You're just having a harder time because you feel uncomfortable being with unfamiliar people, remember? You cannot concentrate with them around?"

Mikey just managed to whine, burying his face deeper into Jack's warm chest, "I wish we all have our classes together."

Jack chuckled, stroking the raven's hair again, "I thought you share your Math class with Brooklyn?"

"We do, but it just feels awkward to approach him without you or Rye, or even Andy at this point."

The Irish boy snickered at the curly boy, "He's probably also adjusting like you."

Mikey looked up from his comfortable nuzzle from his chest, staring at Jack hopefully, "I guess. I just wish I could just skip the awkward 'get-to-know-one-another' bit and just be friends with him already."

"You know it doesn't work that way."

The other sighed, "Well, I wish it does."

The pair shared a moment of tranquility, snuggling by the rooftop as they gazed down at the green fields. They observed their fellow students walking and chatting around the campus, completely oblivious that they were being viewed by the renowned outcast duo of the school.

Jack settled to give a quick glance at his friend who was still busy looking down at the people below. Mikey's lips were puckered, his deep, blue eyes filled with concentration and deep thinking.

'He was thinking about something bizarre again, isn't he?'

His pondering on what the other boy's thoughts were was answered once Mikey spoke, "You know, I often wonder what would happen if we never met."
