Warriors: A Silver Moon Rises

Chapter 5

        I awoke to the sound of Silvermoon padding across the clearing from the leaders den to the medicine den. Why was she awake at this time? Did Starclan send her a message? If they had it must have been really important for her to need to tell Firestar now. I tried to go back to sleep, but i couldn't stop thinking about the two-legs. Harming prey for fun, and taking up forest area that was our home. It sickened me how kittypets loved their two-legs soo much when they did such horrible things.  If prey becomes really scarce, I fear the clans will turn against the warrior code, I thought to myself. When that happens.......I shake away the thought and close my eyes. I needed to get some sleep, I was going to be watching over the apprentice training at sun-high.

        Sun-up came all to soon, I was being prodded awake by Dovewing.

   " I need you to come with me and lionblaze on hunting patrol, the other warriors are out doing dawn patrol and checking to see if anymore prey has been lost," She says looking quite annoyed. I roll onto my side and moan...

   " Alright, I'll be out in afew seconds, just need to stretch first," I said slowly getting up from my nest and shaking out my cream colored pelt. There was no breeze to greet me when I got to the entrance of the den. Looks like it's going to be a hot day today, I thought. I gazed around the camp for a brief moment, I smiled at the sight of the queens laughing to their kits rolling around in their nests pretending to be fierce warriors. Seeing the future warriors of our clan always made me smile.

   " Angelheart, Are you coming any Sunrise now," Dovewing yelled from across the camp. Both her and lionblaze looking rather impatient.

   " Yea, just thought I would say goodbye to the camp before i get mauled by a mouse," I said jokingly. I could see Dovepaw roll her eyes from across the camp. I hurried to where they were standing and followed them into the forest.

   We were padding through the forest for what seemed like a long time before we came across a chaffinche. I dropped into the hunters crouch and quickly but qietly took out the bird with one swipe of my paw. I dug a small hole and buried it to come and get later. We continued the hunt and ended up only finding two vole and one mouse. I went back to the place where I buried the chaffinche, but it wasn't there.

   " I could swear I buried the thing right here," I stammered. I circled around the tree twice.

   " You mouse-brain, did you even kill it properly," Lionblaze yelled. I sniffed the air around the tree, I could smell nothing.

   " Lets just head back to camp, you can take a vole and put it on the pile," Dovewing said angrily.

" Thank you Dovewing," I said in an apologetic tone. We slowly made our way back to camp, hoping we could find something along the way, but there was no luck. We arrived at the camp and found a group of warriors surrounding Firestar.  " Please, everyone calm down..I will try to find a way to resolve this issue," Firestar said calmly. As the group of cats dispersed I ran up to Firestar to ask what was going on.  " Firestar, what was all that about?" I asked calmly. " The border patrol found a trace of Riverclan in our territory, and it had been recent," He exclaimed.  " Earlier on my hunting patrol I had caught a chaffinche, when I returned later to get it, it had gone missing, but there was no scent trace left behind...do you think maybe....?",  " I'm not about to jump to conclusion and get someone in trouble, but it could be a possibility,"  Firestar said, interupting my sentence. I didn't understand how they could steal prey without leaving their scent trail behind. Was that even possible? I thought to myself. Looks like there will be training session, the border patrol will be to busy trying figure this out.

I padded toward the medicine den, where I found Silvermoon speaking with Snowstorm and poppykit.

" She wants to become a medicine cat, Silvermoon would you take her on as an apprentice," the beautiful pale she asked.  " Well of course I would, I need someone to follow in my pawprints when I am gone...I will go speak with Firestar right away," Silvermoon said leaving the den and running into me.  " Hey, where are you off to," I ask her.  " I need to speak with Firestar about poppykit, she is 6 moons and wants to be a medicine cat," she said with a smile of delight. As we arrived at Firestar's den, she motioned for me to wait for her outside the den. She was in his den for quite awhile before they both came out.  " I will wait till tommorow to announce the ceremony," I heard Firestar say as he dipped his head to Silvermoon and padded toward the fresh-kill pile.   " I won't be able to bother you as much as I like to once you have an apprentice, you will be to busy training them," I said in a joking manner. Silvermoon just laughed and began padding toward the camp entrance.  " We arn't needed right now, lets go for a walk in the forest," Silvermoon said with a hint of curiosity in her tone. It felt just like old times as we left the camp to wander the forest. After Firestar took me in, I didn't have anybody to talk to..but the moment I met Silvermoon as a kit. We connected and have been that way since. It felt like time had stopped and turned back many moons for us.  " So are you excited to get an apprentice tommorow," I asked her as we made our way to the river that seperated Shadowclan from us. She didn't respond to my question, she began sniffing the air.   " What do you smell," I asked her quietly.  " Shadowclan," she said.....We turned around to see Shadowtail.

  " Shadowtail...what are you doing here," I asked him in a confused tone. He didn't respond, he ran toward me and licked my forehead.

  " I wanted to be with you...and I came to ask If you would run away with me," He said, and I realized he was being seriouse. I stood there without answering him, I didn't know what to say. Then Silvermoon turned and padded away..she had a saddened expression on her face.  " Silvermoon, what's wrong....I don't understand why you are upset," I asked her, leaving Shadowtail standing there with a hopeful look on his face. She turned to me, and I noticed she had tears in her eyes.  " We have been together forever, I just....don't want you to leave me, to run away with some Shadowclan cat," she cried.   " Silvermoon I....Shadowtail, I can't leave my clan, I would miss them all too much," I said giving him a sad look.  " Then I will run away and join your clan," he said with a hopeful look. I didn't know what to say after that, but I had to say something to him.     "Silvermoon, do you think...Firestar would accept him into the clan," I asked her. She stood there for a moment..silent. But I could tell she was busy thinking through the question. I wanted her to respond fast, this whole matter had shocked me, but I to wanted to be with him.  " Angelwing, I suggest you talk to Firestar about this," she finally said. I took a moment to think about it.  " Silvermoon, could you go to the camp and get Firestar please, I want to tell him away from the others," I said with a hopeful look on my face.

  " It's going to be hard to pull him away with him being leader and all, but I will give it a shot, for you," she said as she turned and bounded for the camp. I knew this was not going to be easy, but we had to try.
