Chapter 25: Always right

Lucius didn't wait for any servant to announce his presence. He barged into Damien's dining hall while looking around for signs of either, but preferably both, of the twins. Seeing neither, however, he marched forward.

"All right." He stopped in front of the table where Damien and Frey were trying to enjoy their meal in vain. "Where are they?"

Damien raised an eyebrow.

"They?"

"Noah and Luna." Lucius rolled his eyes. "Who the fuck else?"

"Noah's run off as well? Not being father of the year lately, it seems."

"That's rich coming from you." Lucius curled his lip, looking over to Frey for backup. Frey did not acknowledge this, rather focusing on rejecting a slightly overroasted cauliflower floret on his plate, but Lucius chose to call it a win anyway. "So by not knowing about Noah I take it Luna's been here, then? Where is she now?"

Damien didn't answer at first, leading Lucius to open his mouth again, but Damien finally found his words.

"You're really trying to marry her off to that Gashcrow boy?"

Lucius closed his eyes, forehead wrinkling as he tried to phrase things correctly.

"Look, it's... complicated, but either way I don't want her running off and getting in trouble. She left Vincent behind and Dyris knows she loves running head first into situations."

"Sounds like someone else I kno—."

"Do you know where she went or not?"

"She had questions, Lucius." Damien's voice lowered into a grave tone. "About their past. About your actions."

"Yeah but she's always had those." Lucius ran a hand through his hair. "I figured she'd stop asking at some point."

"But it's gotten worse, probably because of your recent behavior."

Lucius narrowed his eyes at that.

"... What did you tell her?"

"Before I answer that, I want you to know that I was not aware of you withholding that information."

"What... did... you... tell her?" Lucius growled.

"It appears she was under the impression Anthony was actually her father."

Lucius let out a low groan, squeezing his eyes shut again.

"Why would you tell her that?"

"Because I thought she knew. Why wouldn't you have told her?"

"Well what would I have said?"

"I don't know, but something other than that."

"So I reckon she was upset." Lucius tried to move on. He had to find her before her thoughts spiraled further. "Did she tell you where she was going before she left?"

Damien shared a look with Frey before releasing a sigh.

"She's on her way to Wyrmdon."

"She's—" Lucius' voice croaked and he cleared his throat. "She's going to Wyrmdon?"

"Yes."

"Alone?"

"... Yes."

Lucius took a deep breath through his nose and exhaled slowly.

"And, uh... Why exactly is she going there?"

"She'd... had enough of all the secrecy, so she decided to find her uncle for questioning."
