The warp drive is a hypothetical (though some aspects are becoming reality) faster than light propulsion method. It is one of the most effective and important methods of achieving feasible interstellar travel. It used to be the staple of Science Fiction and was used as a plot device in many notable works, famously in Star Trek. However, with physics advancing day by day, some realms of this topic are verging on becoming real science. The warp drive is an ideal way of travelling at superluminal speeds without needing to submit to the problem of time dilation. Compared with other FTL types of technology, the warp drive does not allow travel between two fixed points, instead, it generates an artificial 'bubble' consisting of normal space-time, which surrounds the spacecraft in question.
