The 'warp drive' first really came to light in the 1960s with the advent of the Star Trek TV show. However, it was purely speculation; Roddenberry's take on humanity's future. Though, it is getting closer to being reality. In 1994, a physicist named Miguel Alcubierre proposed his design of a possible warp drive. It is now known as the Alcubierre Drive, and is one of the most feasible and impressive of all FTL possible technologies.
Recently, as early as 2013, NASA scientist Dr Harold White postulated that Alcubierre's drive may be more realistic than previously thought. Dr White is the head of NASA's Advanced Propulsion Team. He is known for proposing new warp drive ideas and overcoming previous technological hurdles. He lead the team who performed the first real, practical experiment to test the existence of the Alcubierre drive's effects.
