At the same time yet on opposite sides of the facility, every Glader had enjoyed a warm shower to wash off every speck of dirt and every drop of blood that stained their skin. The boys left feeling refreshed while the girls left feeling clean.

Each group was given new clothes to change into, each one a solid color and devoid of any pattern or label to mark the clothes. (Y/N) even had Teresa help her brush through her hair and style it unlike she had ever done in the maze.

As much as she loved the feeling of being freshly bathed, she remained unsettled as she wondered where the boys had gone to. She trusted Newt and knew that when he promised he would find her, he would keep that promise.

"You girls are finished." A woman startled the young girl as she entered their bedroom. It was a rather large room, triple the size of her hut in the maze, and the only furniture inside was designed in small proportions, adding even more space to the room.

The woman smiled brightly to the pair, softening (Y/N)'s tense state. "If you two would follow me, we will be having a few doctors preform your checkups before you can be released to the others."

Teresa exchanged a glance with (Y/N), allowing the older girl to make the decision. Nodding, (Y/N) allowed the woman in the lab coat to lead them down more hallways. As they walked, the woman was seemingly watching (Y/N) as she walked and didn't stop until (Y/N) asked about it.

"Oh I didn't mean to stare. I only noticed you're limping."

(Y/N) glanced down at her leg, memories she didn't want starting to return. "I got it many months ago. I'm used to it now."

"I'll be sure to have one of our doctors take a look at it. I'm sure they'll be able to do something about it," the woman smiled brightly to (Y/N), and for reasons unknown, (Y/N) smiled back.

They traveled for a while before the woman stopped them at another small room. Once they entered, (Y/N) made a note that it looked exactly how she imagined a hospital room would look had hospitals still been around.

"The doctors will be in shortly." The woman made sure the girls were comfortable before leaving, locking the door behind her.

"Do you also find it rather odd that every time we go somewhere, someone locks us in?" The question was subconsciously on Teresa's mind and when she spoke it allowed, she realized how much it was becoming a constant thing.

(Y/N) nodded, having noticed the same thing. "They seem really nice. Too nice."

Teresa sat beside (Y/N) on the exam table and patted her shoulder a few times. Teresa had noticed how much the girl relied on Newt and figured that in his absence, she would take over his job.

"I'm sure there's nothing to worry about," Teresa contradicted her previous statement, "they're just gonna help us."

It felt like an hour had passed before a doctor showed up to check on the girls and even then, they were missing the second doctor who would administer the checkup on her.

Teresa was halfway through her checkup when the woman from before stepped into the room. "(Y/N), the doctor is waiting for you in another room. Would you please follow me?"

"I think it would be best if I stayed with Teresa," (Y/N) nervously darted her eyes between the woman and Teresa, finding out unfortunately that Teresa wasn't on her side.

"(Y/N), it's gonna be okay. They just need to run some tests like they're doing for me and the boys. It's gonna be fine. And I'm sure they'll take you to see the boys as soon as you're cleared, right?"

The woman nodded. "Of course. As soon as you're clear, I'll take you back to the boys." (Y/N) didn't agree with Teresa at all and found it quite peculiar that Teresa didn't want them to stay together, but the thought of seeing Newt soon far outweighed the thought of something happening while she was separated from Teresa.

"Great," the woman commented cheerfully when she saw (Y/N) complied and began to follow her. For the hundredth time today, (Y/N) followed someone until they brought her to a room identical to the last one only it was many rooms away.

Sitting exactly how she was before, (Y/N) fiddled with her thumbs as she waited for the doctor to arrive and this time, she was there within minutes.

"You must be (Y/N)?" The woman was larger than the one before and was wearing a pantsuit rather than a dress. Her hair was styled in a bun to keep it out of her way but her face was decorated with a thick layer of makeup. It seemed rather unnecessary for the woman to be wearing so much makeup for a time like this.

Shyly, (Y/N) nodded and watched the woman close the door as she read through a clipboard. The entire procedure lasted half an hour but after the basic checkup, the doctor focused on (Y/N)'s leg.

"I hear you have a bad limp. How did you get it?" The doctor sat in front of (Y/N) with her leg right in front of her face where she could see and feel the different bones and muscles moving as she twisted and turned it.

Hissing a little from a somewhat sharp pain, she answered, "I don't want to talk about it, please."

The doctor respected her wishes and didn't ask again. After examining the ankle for a few minutes, she came to a conclusion. "I can reset the bone and fix your limp. It's a simple surgery in your ankle that should take no longer than a day to recover."

The girls entire face went pale. "Surgery? I—I don't think I can have surgery." (Y/N)'s heartrate picked up quickly as her breath started shortening until she was gasping for breaths. Her eyes darted around the room and no matter how many times the doctor called her name, she wouldn't answer.

"Newt? Where's Newt?" (Y/N) croaked out. The doctor repeated the name before realizing she had come here with a group of boys. She ran out of the room, now in search of some boy named Newt.

-----

Across the facility, Newt was sitting in a large room with all of the other boys as they were given their checkups. He found it strange how each of the boys were given a different sort of checkup; he was being given shots to balance out the vitamins he lacked while in the maze, Winston was having his blood pressure checked and Minho was running on a treadmill. Nothing seemed consistent.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a short Asian woman sporting a lab coat run up to the doctor who was helping him. The woman whispered something in the man's ear, glancing over his shoulder to look at Newt.

The doctor turned around and stood over Newt. "There's been an issue. I need you to come with me." While Newt had no idea what was happening, the only thing on his mind had been (Y/N). He hoped that the man would be taking him to see her but the thought of her being in a situation where he was needed like this scared him. All in all, he followed.
