Recap:
Last chapter Night and Ukyo trained for a while before going to get ice cream. They were mistaken as a couple which the two quickly denied, blushing like the fools they are. That was where Night felt a pang in her chest as she realized something that was not quite right. She didn't just like Ukyo. She.........
Ukyo and I were sitting idly on a park bench eating our ice cream when I turned to him.
"Hey, Ukie?" My voice was softer than the normal and seemed so unlike me, Ukyo immediately looked at me and said in a worried voice, "Is everything okay?" I quickly nodded. I didn't mean for him to get worried over two words.
"Yeah, I'm good. I just wanted to ask you a question." He raised his eyebrow.
"Hm?"
"Did you... Um... Do you..? Er..." Why can't I say it?! Snap out of it, Night! Just ask him! Tell him! He'll understand! I hope...
"Are you sure everything's okay?" His brows furrowed together, and he looked even more worried. He's so cute... Wait. What? Snap out of it, Night. He's just a friend.
"I...I'm sure!" My face was burning and Ukyo's worries did not cease. He put a hand against my burning forehead.
"You're warm. I think you're sick."
"I'm not sick!" What is this? Why am I suddenly more flustered? He ruffled my hair.
"Doesn't matter. Let's get you back to your house. I'll have you rest first to see if the fever ceases."
"You don't even know if I have a fever!" Ukyo laughed.
"Sure, I do. Now come along." He stood up and offered his hand to help me stand.
"I can stand by myself, but thanks." I took his hand anyway, and he swiftly pulled me up.
"Anyway, what were you going to ask me earlier?"
"Um... Is there any chance that...that.., er... Is there a chance that you...that you maybe..?" My voice trailed off. Snap out of it! Stop being so stupid!
"Is there a chance that I..?"
"I... I, um..."
"You don't need to be worried about saying whatever it is, Night."
"I...I like you!" I yelled it out, blushing furiously. Realizing what I just did, I ran away, leaving the shocked male behind.
"Night! Wait!" He called after me and began to run. Tears dripped down from my face. He won't feel the same! There's no point in turning back! Just run, Night, run! Don't even bother looking back!
I hurriedly unlocked my door and went inside, going to close it. Ukyo's hand stopped it. When it came to strength, he could easily overpower me, but he didn't even try.
"Night, please. Just let me answer before you run off." No! Don't let him! You're going to get crushed!
"It's not like you'll even return it!" I sped off into my room and locked the door, weeping to my heart's content. I heard the front door close gently and soft footsteps coming down the hallway. They stopped at my door where there was no knock. Only breathing. Then a voice.
"What if I were to tell you, you thought wrong? What if I were to tell you, that despite me saying we were nothing but close friends, it still hurt me to hear it from you? What if I were to tell you that I've wanted you to see I care for you in a way that is more than what you thought?" What..? It can't be... Nobody could think that about me! I didn't answer.
"It's all true, Night. I feel the same." I scoffed, tears dripping onto my bed.
"I'm sorry, Ukyo, but I don't believe it."
"Will you let me in? Maybe you could at least let me try to prove it?"
"No, thank you." I heard a frustrated sigh.
"I don't want to push you from your boundaries, Night. That will always be one of the things I'll never do to you, because if I do that, then I hurt you. You mean more to me than words can describe." Why, Ukyo? Why me? Of all people, why did you choose me? I sighed and opened up the door.
"Boundaries are what make us human, am I correct?" Ukyo nodded.
"Yes, they are. I honor those boundaries as you honor them." Ukie... I quickly hugged him.
"I'm sorry... I don't want to ruin our friendship, but I wanted you to know..."
"It's okay. I want you to know something, though. I want you to know that I really like you. In a way more than friends." What..?
