We reach my room and I close the door. Jacob still has a worried look on his face. "Jake, what's up? Why'd you come home so early?"
Jacob had been in England all holidays visiting his uncle. He was meant to be there for six weeks, but he's come home two weeks early.
He suddenly wraps his arms around me and starts crying into my shoulder. "Jacob, what's wrong?" I ask, worried. I hug him back tightly.
We make our way to my bed and sit down. Jacob is still crying. "Jake, please tell me what's wrong."I say quietly.
He lifts his head. I look at his tear-stained face. It hurts me so much to see him like this. I'm so used to the happy, jumpy, Jacob. Not this.
"My uncle and I were having the best time." He sniffed, "He took me to as many beautiful places he could. It was so good to finally have a male figure in my life. My mum is great an all, but it felt good."
I nod. Jacob's father had passed away when he was around ten years old.
"Him and I were becoming so close. I thought I could talk to him about anything. Until, he caught me making out with a guy." He looked at me, pain in his eyes."He yelled at me, told me that I was a fag and that I was no nephew of his." His eyes filled with fresh tears.
"Oh Jacob." I say as I pull him into another hug. Although, I couldn't stop thinking about him making out with another guy. Was I jealous? No, Jacob's been my best friend since I was six, I was not jealous.
"My uncle booked me on the first flight home. Thank god he was decent enough and didn't tell my Mum. Her reaction would've been a thousand times worse."
I nod in agreement. Mrs. Bixenman was lovely and all, but she was extremely homophobic. She would freak if she found out about Jacob, or even if she found out that I was gay and Jacob was hanging out with some homo. "So why does your mum think you came home early?"
"I told her I was homesick and she believed me. But she's the least of my worries." Jacob laughs.
Has he got hotter? I swear he's got hotter in four weeks. "Yeah, true." I laugh back.
"Boys! Afternoon tea is ready!" My mum calls from downstairs.
We both head downstairs and into the kitchen. My mum has prepared a huge cheese platter and a fruit salad. "Geez, Mum, a bit overboard." I laugh.
"Oops, sorry." My mum says.
"Thanks Mrs. Mellet." Jacob says.
"Oh please, Jacob. I've known you since you were six years old, you can call me Laurelle." My Mum laughs. "Well I'm due to go to my book club, will you two be alright on your own?"
"Mum, we're seventeen! We will be alright for a couple of hours!" I laugh.
"Okay, I'm sorry. Sometimes I just forget. It felt like yesterday you two were running around the house naked after playing in the sprinkler in the backyard."
"Laurelle, we haven't done that since we were seven." Jacob chuckles.
"I know, I know. Okay, you two have fun." Mum says as she walks out the door.
I turn back to Jacob laughing. "Now fill me in on the good parts of your holiday. Now, who was this boy you were kissing?" I ask smiling, although,I try to hide the jealousy in those words.
