#11
FOUR DAYS LATER, nothing has changed. For five boys in that living room - with the oddly occupied bed in the living room - still remain sick and intolerable, even after Scarlett has left the country.
Harry was seated on the couch, his legs wrapped underneath him, crossed together Indian style, as he stared at Niall sympathetically, who was staring at Anabelle with all the care in the world. She was oblivious to him, as she sat on the edge of the bed, in the same seating style as Harry and tried to snatch the remote control from Louis' hand. Louis flipped through the channels, not allowing a mere minute on one channel before he flipped to the next, to Anabelle's dismay, for she really wanted to watch 500 days of summer on FOX.
"Quit playing with me Louis, I really like that movie" she repeated with a louder voice, yet Louis ignored her and Niall smiled, his cheeks flaming red.
Harry was seconds away from throwing them on each other with hopes that Anabelle would return Niall's affection and kiss him, but he didn't, as he was interrupted by a knock on the door.
Anabelle jumped to her feet hastily, running to the door bare foot, as if she was expecting someone. Looks of confusion were exchanged between the four boys, excluding Liam, who had a pillow over his eyes, although he was clearly not sleeping and there was no sunlight seeping through the windows, as Anabelle has closed the curtains - not that there would be any sunlight otherwise, for it was cloudy today.
"Surprise!" Anabelle squeaked, holding two large boxes in her hand, walking over to the dinning table against the wall, sweeping her hips from side to side, "So, celebrating your well being I ordered pizza"
Liam pulled the pillow from his face, "Did I hear pizza?"
"Yes, Pizza!"
Anabelle ran to the kitchen, coming back with six plates, with a beam on her face. Harry has noticed she rarely doesn't smile, but today she was beaming, excited, happy. It differs from her normal smile, which resembles a motherly smile. This smile made her look young and full of excitement. It was a smile that made Niall smile, with a twinkle in his eyes.
Harry and the rest of the boys remain seated as Anabelle gave them each a plate with two slices of pizza, and poured them all a cup of sprite.
As long as everyone was happy, which indeed they were, Harry was happy.
This time Anabelle did not sit on the edge of the bed, she sat beside Harry on the couch and took a bite of her vegetarian pizza. Harry noticed that Niall looked disappointed. His stomach dropped because he really cared about Niall, and only wanted him to smile. Having Anabelle around was both, good and bad, for she made Niall smile, but sometimes, Niall realizes she will never return his affections, and for that he would be blue all day.
As they ate pizza together, talking over each other, Harry was content with his life at the moment. He was realaxed, and happy that Anabelle decided to appear in their miserable hectic, sick life.
THE PHONE RANG once, twice, thrice until Anabelle was able to hear it over Niall and Harry speaking and the loud chatter coming from the TV.
"Hello?" Anabelle replied the unknown number in the kitchen, away from the chaos.
"Annie, it's Scar, something has happened" Scarlett sounded out of breath as if she had been running a marathon.
"Calm down Scar, what's wrong?" she had ignored the fact that Scarlett had called her Annie. Annie - only when something is wrong.
Scarlett spoke hastily, and with the sound coming from the living room, it was awfully hard to concentrate on what's going on. All Anabelle could hear in her mind echoing again and again and slapping her in the face is,
Anabelle your mother is dying.
THERE WAS NO chance to explain. There was nothing to explain really. Anabelle is a terrible daughter, and she needs to be by her mother's side. The pizza and the fun that was taking place two hours ago was long gone, as Anabelle packed everything that was scattered on the bed she never slept into the bag.
Niall and Zayn were continuously on her back asking her what the hell has happened, but she had absolutely no energy for an explanation. She was just a terrible daughter.
She stood in front of five confused boys with a bag in her hand and apologised again and again for leaving. She gave no further explanation, not where she was going, or why she was going, as she ran to her untouched car for almost ten days now.
She is a terrible daughter that needs to be beside her dying mother.
THE SKY WAS grey, the colour of ashes. The farm didn't even appeal, or grow as she remembers. Its been a long time ago, she shouldn't remember how the stupid farm looks like.
Anabelle carefully and slowly walked on the path that wasn't covered with grass, leading to a beautiful small house. The door painted red, with four windows on the front, on the upper floor, and on each side of the red door. She could see the curtains closed through the windows, the only light illuminating from the lamp out the front door.
She vowed to never come back here, yet there she was, knocking the damn red door. It smelled like baked cookies, even from the outside. She wondered how the house looks like now. Did her mother redecorate it? Were there any pictures of her on frames? It still smelled the same though.
Her mother baked the best cookies, and dear god she didn't want to admit of anything good regarding her dying mother.
Anabelle wore a dress, with flats and had her hair in a high pony tail. She had fixed her make up in the bathroom. She awkwardly tried changing into the dress in one of the stalls in the bathroom. She wanted to look good for her mother after not having seen her for sixteen years.
The door swings open and Anabelle looks up from the floor to the face of her mother. A woman with pale blue eyes, and dyed blonde hair. A figure of a goddess, a beautiful woman resembling her twin sister Scarlett. There was absolutely no differene between their faces, except for the smearing red lipstick she had on her lips - something Scarlett would die before coming near.
"Anabelle?" her mother said her name with a smile on her face, showing the crinkles on the edge of her eyes, and Anabelle wanted to disappear. She never thought she would ever come back to the woman that gave birth to her and only raised her - barely for five years.
"Hey mum" Anabelle replied with a tight smile. Her mother pulled her into an unexpected tight hug, making the suitcase drop from her hand. Still smells like cookies and roses, Anabelle thought to herself, awkwardly rubbing her mother's back.
"Come on in, I made cookies"
Anabelle carried the suitcase into the kitchen. The same small kitchen, painted yellow. Anabelle remembers it in pale white.
"How are you mum?" she just wanted the approach the cancer topic carefully. It was awkward.
"Tired" her mother sighed, dropping on the chair. She did not look as pale as Anabelle aniticipated. Must be the make up, she thought to herself.
"Come on, have some" her mum pushed the plate with cookies towards her, still beaming. Anabelle couldn't even bring herself to smile.
Who is this woman? She asked herself as she took a bite of the delicious cookies, definitely, and still not my mother.
