————————- Another huge thanks to my fabulous helper, @PhoenixCode for editing my pile of crap into something I could never really think of, so thank! Without further delay, here is the second chapter! ————————

(Larrence)

As we flew I could feel Storm's unadulterated joy as we soared through the sky feeling the air flowing through our feathers. At the speed we were going it wouldn't be long until we reached my school.

Do we really have to go? Why don't we skip class and continue flying? Storm whined and tried to convince me to skip school.

Do you remember the last time I skipped school? We were practically banned from flying for a month! If I ever skip another day of school we might not be allowed to fly until I graduate!

She quieted down with reluctance. Below us, the school yard was full of chattering students and the occasional Phoenix showing off his or her were form.

I screeched in warning, letting everyone know that they needed to move away from my landing spot. People looked up and stared at me while creating a small landing area where I could land. My mismatched eyes narrowed and I quickly calculated how much room I would have to land. There wasn't enough space for my entire phoenix form so I decided to perform a half shift.

The air around me started to freeze while the blood inside me boiled with anticipation. I loved half shifting. It allowed me to retain some attributes of my phoenix form while having a mostly human body.

Ice crystals surrounded me as my phoenix form receded until only my wings were left. During the transition I had stopped moving my wings and as a result I was now plummeting from the sky. Quickly, I spread out my wings and with powerful downward strokes I was able to slow my descent in time to land.

When my feet touched the ground, I was enveloped into two pairs of arms. Joshua's chocolate and Chris's strawberry scents swirled around me in a familiar and comforting blend. Joshua and Chris are mates as well as childhood friends of mine so we are all very close. The people milling about the school yard started closing in on the already small space so I spread out my wings and they reluctantly moved back.

"Happy birthday Lex!" Chris, short for Christina, smiled at me while Josh, otherwise known as Joshua, wrapped an arm around her waist and copied her smile.

"Congrats on your seventeenth b-day," Josh exclaimed, ruffling my hair and then patting my head like a dog.

"You're seventeen now, so let's go celebrate, 'kay?" Chris hugged me tightly, leaving me gasping for air... again.

After a while she finally released me and I immediately start sucking air into my oxygen-starved lungs.

Catching my breath, I replied with regret tinging my voice. "I don't know guys. I have to go do my 'work' but if I don't have anything then I'll text you guys. Until then, I won't be able to go."

Chris and Josh nodded their heads in understanding. My 'work' as I had put it was more along the lines of assassinations. I would receive orders and a profile on my target. Then I would leave during the night to fulfill my orders.

We conversed for a little bit and I took a glance at the digital clock on the wall. "Okay I need to get to class now. Bye guys." I waved goodbye as I made my way towards the main building. I could hear the echoes of their own goodbyes follow after me.

The main stone building came into sight. It was the dormitory wing that connected to the rest of the school through a small skywalk. Before I moved past the doors I made sure to complete the shift back into a human. Upon entering, there was a small, petite woman sitting at the reception table.
