When 9 oclock rolled around the next morning Julians nerves were off the charts. It had to be pure adrenaline that was walking his body around.
Also only the grace of some higher power and someones moment of weakness were the reasons that he was even still alive.
If the scales had been tilted even a fraction off in the opposite direction he could very easilly have been the one on a cold slab right now.A lot of the previous night was still a bit fuzzy. Kind of like he had dreamt it all. He wished to GOD that he had. He had to believe that he didn't mind coming face to face with a nightmare. Bad dreams couldn't kill someone.
He had spent the last twelve hours filtering through the incident. Trying to make heads and tails out of it all.
There were bits and pieces of what had happened replaying over and over again inside of his head. They had haunted him everytime he tried to fall asleep last night. He eventually just gave up on resting . And although weary had just opted to watch some Netflix and consume a pint of mocha ice cream instead. One pot of Columbian roast later,
Julian strolled into the police station with purpose.
He was a man on a mission. His steps were high and soon his conscience would be clear.
At the front desk sat a cringe worthy cop. He made no pretences at his annoyance and barely looked up at Julian as he continued to gobble down the last bites of a powdered donut.
"I need to speak to someone...i was involved in that 'thing', at the crab factory last night."
Officer 'dont give a damn' ears literally perked up. As his eyes grew wider than two saucers he leaned in to shorten the distanceOfficer Rodriguez couldn't believe his luck. He was supposed to be off today. But agreed to take a fellow officers shift.
How could this get any better?
He was doing everything that he could possibly do to not jump for joy.
He was the one who was going to get the inside scoop on this buzz case.
Practically peeing his pants the cop blurted out. "HOLY SHIT!"
"Excuse me". Julian frowned.
He was aware of several officers stopping whatever task they were doing to shamelessly stare. Mouths hanging on hinge. The air was baited with a thick discharge of envy.
"Oh um...I mean I can help you with that".
'Calm down', he silently reminded himself , hopping up from his seat and sweeping his palm across the powdery sweetness on his lips.
"Follow me".
Julian obeyed.
In a lot of ways Julian felt as if he was a lamb being led to slather.
After several minutes of weaving through several corridors they arrived.
Their Destination was a small room at the end of a narrow hall. Nothing but a desk and two chairs occupied the room. It also was about a hundred degrees as there were no windows . Even more disturbing though was the bitter thang of musk in the air.
Jule had to push down the unease in his stomach.
"Okay, I need to ask you a few questions, and we can go from there.." his voice was shakey but he swallowed his nerves. Reminded himself that he was a professional not some kid at a candy store.Julian suddenly felt the gravity of what he was about to do.
Even if he wanted to change his mind ....the pain filled eyes of the dark haired suspect dominated his brain. The man had literally saved him from a bullet. The same bullet that had ended his friends life. Why? Why in the hell had he done that?!
Julian had to even out the karma. If he ever wanted to be able to move past this nightmare.
He had no choice...
