MACKENZIE ZIEGLER

SATURDAY DECEMBER FIRST dawned bright and sunny, and I couldn't have been more happy about it.
School officially let out for the summer yesterday, and after a long year of studying and hard work, it all paid off. I found out that I aced every single one of my exams, and decided I'd better treat myself because of it.
After this mornings breakfast, which was avocado on toast, I skipped into the bathroom with a half smile on my face. My sister Maddie and I shared a pleasant conversation – normally we taunt each other constantly – and this only added to my good mood.
In the shower, I shaved and exfoliated my skin, adding at least ten more minutes onto my already thirty minute shower... oops. At least my Mum is working today, so she'll never know.
I blowdried my hair in my bedroom, a long process, while jamming along to Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande. I may or may not have accidentally bumped my head on the drier a few times, but I only laughed at myself.
Feeling very confident, I picked out a yellow bandeau top and paired it with some of my favourite cut-offs. When I was absolutely satisfied with my dried hair, I braided it in two sections down my back. It was getting really long, and my shower left it looking sleek and shiny. I felt good about that.
After telling Maddie I was going for a walk, I proceeded to plug my airpods in my ears and slip on some flip flops before heading out the door. The sun was absolutely gorgeous on my skin, and I sighed in relief that I would no longer have to stress about my exam results. The song Tommy and Krista came on, and I bopped my head and hummed along as I continued walking down to the wharf.
One of the things I love about the place that I live is the beach. It's a twenty minute walk away from where I live, has a wharf to jump off, and it provides some very nice food. Today, I think I'll treat myself to some ice cream – a double scoop. Life's too short to only get one in my opinion.
A street away from the wharf, I breathe in the salty beach air and take out my airpods, placing them safely in the pockets of my shorts. Seagulls squawk at each other down by the jetty, and boat motors are chugging faintly in the distance. I can already hear the splashes of the kids jumping off the wharf, and then the blissful sounds of them laughing and screaming when they reach the surface again, cold and out of breath. They'll jump again, and again, and again. I know I used to.
