Chapter 20 'changes'

Caroline's pov

I start to wake up from a slightly uncomfortable bed and a extremely bad headache. I slowly open my eyes to the burning bright light of the room I'm currently in. I look around my surroundings, confused as to why I'm in the hospital. The last thing I remember is talking to Klaus.

I turn my head slowly to look for a call button for a nurse. I reach for the button and press it, the loud buzzing sounding through the small room. A young female nurse walks into the room looking at me.

"well hello sleepy. How you feeling hun?" she asks me carefully. I frown at her.

"why am I here? What happened?" she looks down to the floor and then back up to me.

"we couldn't find anything severely wrong with you but we did see that you're extremely dehydrated and weak right now so you need to rest and drink lots of fluid. The doctor wants to keep you on an IV for a few more hours and then you'll be free to go home. We have also called your father to inform him, he spent the night here with you, he just went home to get you some clothes." as soon as she mentioned being dehydrated, I come to my full senses and suddenly become aware of the burning feeling in my throat. Why do I feel like this?

" why do I feel like this? Surely this can't be just dehydration. I want to see my doctor." I yell without even realising until it came out of my mouth. She looks shocked for a moment before she nods and leaves the room, returning a second later with a man in a doctors uniform. He gives me a warm smile before speaking.

" hello miss forbes. It seems that you just have severe dehydration which is causing your throat to become extremely irritated. Hence the pain. Well keep you on the-" his words tune out and I no longer hear him. I only hear the pulsing sounds of his heartbeat. The smell of fresh blood immediately hits my nose making my throat start burning more. I feel a tingling burning sensation beneath my eyes.

" miss forbes.. You-your eyes.." and the next thing I know I'm lunging at him and digging my teeth into his neck, drinking his blood. I can't even think rationally, all I can think about is how good his blood tastes. I feel his body go limp in my arms and hear a woman scream. I drop his body to the floor once I realise what I'm doing. I stare down at his lifeless body in shock.

Am I.. Am I a vampire?

*1 day earlier*

"Well do you have an suspicions on who this other vampire could be? And why they wanted to turn elena?" I ask Klaus as we sit in his living room with Elijah and Rebekah. Klaus shakes his head and frowns.

"no clue. Usually we can pick up on others but this one is smart and has managed to go undetected" you can hear the lace of annoyance in his voice. Everyone is silent for a minute.

"can I see elena yet?" I ask quietly. It's been two days since the party and I still haven't seen her. She's in one of their cellars to be safe. But I know her, she probably feels so guilty for what she done. I need to reassure her that this isn't her fault and I'm not angry.

"absolutely not she's still to dangerous for you to be around." klaus immediately disagrees. I look to Elijah and just hope he understands why I need to see her.

"Niklaus. She's behind cellar doors. She won't be able to hurt Caroline." klaus just shakes his head, not saying a word.

"I won't go near the door, I'll stand across from it and talk to her. I promise." I try to compromise with him. He signs and looks over to me.

"very well but I'll be just outside so if she tries anything I'm coming in" I smile at him and nod.

"of course." we stand up and go to the cellars. Just before we enter the room I turn to him and hold his hand. "thank you klaus." he stares at me for a second before turning away and opening the door. I walk in and he closes the door behind me so it's just me and Elena now.
