Teresa's POV
I returned back to the hut and put away the bow and arrows. A few minutes later Thomas showed up.
"Hey."
"Hey."
"What have you been doing all day."
"Um, I've just been studying something called frontotemporal dementia. It's a rare form of dementia that causes the tissue in your brain to shrink. It's also one of the only types of dementia that you may frequently see on teenagers as well as people 45-65 years of age. Not that you would frequently see it. And there is no cure."
I know I lied but I wasn't really comfortable telling Thomas that there was a bag of weapons under his bed and that I had been using some of them. All day.
"Oh, well, you missed lunch. And it's 2 hours till sundown. And we need to get ready for the party."
"The party?" I asked confused.
"Once a month we throw a party. Tradition back in the glade supposedly. Only now it's been a little modernized."
"Um, ok. When does this party start?"
"Now."
We headed down to the beach where everyone on the island was. There large bonfire was going and people were having karaoke competitions.
Thomas and I walked around and talked to people then he led me to a mini bar.
"What is this?"
"Well on my first night Newt made me drink some of Gally's secret recipe drink. Now it's your turn." He said handing me a drink.
I drank it and it was good. It had a sour taste but it was tolerable.
"Really! Not even a flinch! Wow!" Thomas said.
Minho came up to Thomas and dragged him into the crowd, leaving me alone. I looked across the bar and saw Brenda. I walked up to her.
"Hey Brenda." I said.
"Teresa, hi."
"How are you?"
"Fine. You?"
"Fine."
"Okay, I was wondering," Brenda said. "Do you hate me?"
"Of course not. Why would I hate you."
"Well everyone says I hate you so I thought.."
"I do not hate you Brenda." I said. "I admire yo really. You have a lot of fire in you."
"You'd be surprised at how easy I can burn out."
"Probably really easy if you keep telling yourself that." I said.
She turned and looked at me. Then she started laughing. I laughed with her. Neither of us really knew what was so funny but we still laughed.
"Cheers." She said.
"For what?" I asked.
"Being alive, to enjoy tonight."
We both clinked our glasses and drank. My gaze drifted to the karaoke. Brenda followed it.
"You should do it." She said.
"No, I'm good."
"Come on." She said and she dragged me over. "Next contender!" She shouted. "Teresa whatever her last name is.
Everyone cheered. I went through the list and found a song I recognized. I pressed play and the background music began.

All of my friends are the reason I'm only
On for the weekend when it's not so lonely
Most Friday nights end up looking this way

Wake up so high, now I'm drunk on the feeling
Boredom comes next and I stare at the ceiling
Most Monday nights end up looking this way
End up looking this way

Come on sugar, don't you leave early
I'm tired of counting myself back to sleep

Baby, we don't need no money
No worries tonight
Start a party in the living room
Turn it up until we feel it bloom
Baby, lets get fucking crazy and loose track of time
Why we always got to fret about it?
There's nothing to regret about it
There's nothing to regret about it
There's nothing to regret about it

My friends are the reason that I'm never sober
Young and I'm broke and I live on a sofa
When it gets hard, yeah we get drunk again

We get wild, we let down
Yeah we're foolish and and scared
We run and we jump and we feel unprepared
But I got your back if you make a mistake, if you make a mistake

Come on sugar, don't you leave early
I'm tired of counting myself back to sleep

Baby, we don't need no money
No worries tonight
Start a party in the living room
Turn it up until we feel it bloom
Baby, lets get fucking crazy and loose track of time
Why we always got to fret about it?
There's nothing to regret about it
There's nothing to regret about it
There's nothing to regret about it
(There's nothing to regret about it)

Come on sugar, don't you leave early (there's nothing to regret about it)
I'm tired of counting myself back to sleep

Baby, we don't need no money
No worries tonight
Start a party in the living room
Turn it up until we feel it bloom
Baby, lets get fucking crazy and loose track of time
Why we always got to fret about it?
There's nothing to regret about it
There's nothing to regret about it
There's nothing to regret about it
There's nothing to regret about it
There's nothing to regret about it
End of song
After the song, everyone cheered
"We have a winner!" Someone shouted.
I stepped down and walked over to Brenda.
"Oh my god, that was so good!"she yelled.
Thomas came over to us.
"Hey great job!" He said. "That was incredible!"
"Thank you!" I yelled.
The rest of the night was just as amazing.
