I opened my eyes; my eyelashes were wet from the rain that was pouring down. I was laying under the same tree but--I sat up, disoriented. Where was I? Looking around, I saw that I was in a wooded area. This was certainly not anywhere near my school. But the tree was exactly the same one I'd been sitting in a while ago.
What had happened? I had no idea how I'd gotten to this place, or where this place was, exactly. I was struck by lightning, right? Am I dead? If I was indeed deceased, I wondered, then why was I here? I had too many questions and no way to find the answers to them. Agh, I'm such an idiot! Who climbs into a tree during a thunderstorm?! Me, of course.
No reason to just sit here... I pulled my hood over my short hair and looked around for my backpack, but it was nowhere to be seen. However, I did have my cell phone and earbuds in my pocket. And I still had my half-empty bag of fried peas. Great. At least I won't starve. Yet. Or die of from lack of music. Until my phone loses power.
I stood and began to walk through the woods. The amount of rain began to increase rapidly. Soon I was shielding my face with my hands and trudging through mud. Rain didn't bother me that much-it was preferable to harsh sunshine, in my opinion. But this storm was insane!
After awhile I came upon what looked to be a cobblestone road. I couldn't see where it led to, but it was the first sign of civilization I'd seen so far. So I followed it. My clothes were now sopping wet, and as it was November, I was freezing as well. Some raindrops froze as they touched down onto my skin or clothes. I shivered. I was going to catch a cold.
I plodded through the freezing rain. Suddenly I remembered a simple heating spell. I was normally reluctant to use magic, but I was extremely cold and felt like I was going to develop hypothermia. In Latin I spoke, "Adduc flamma ignis, et adducite. Custodi me a calido desiderio." Soon I began to feel a bit warmer.
It felt like I'd been walking for hours when I heard the sound of horses' hooves behind me. I turned around to see a riding carriage coming up the road. A carriage? I thought most people ceased using those a long time ago. I began to raise my arms, but I hesitated. I didn't want to ride in a random carriage with people I didn't know... but I was really kind of desperate to get out of the rain and mud. If I get into a bad situation, I thought, I can defend myself. "Hey!" I waved my arms. The carriage passed me. "Oh, come on! Please?" I chased after it, frantically waving my arms. It continued on, then suddenly stopped. I ran up to the door of the carriage, were it was opened by a man with dark black hair. He was wearing a butler's suit. "Thank you," I said, relieved and grateful. Nodding, he held his hand out to help me inside. Smiling, I took it.
Inside the carriage sat a young boy, only looking about twelve years of age. The butler dude gave me his coat to dry off. "Oh, thanks." How gentlemanly! The carriage began to move once more. "I saw you out the window. You looked like you needed a little help." The boy spoke. "I did, thank you." Both of them looked so familiar for some reason, but I couldn't place them. I knew them from somewhere.
"Who might you be?" the boy asked. "I'm Miyako. " "Miyako? What a unique name. I am Earl Ciel Phantomhive, and this is my butler Sebastian." I smiled for a second, not completely comprehending what he'd told me. Then it hit me like a train. "Geahh!" I jumped back, startled. Both of them looked at me, confused. Sebastian started, "Is there something wrong, miss-" "Aaaaaaaaa-aaaaahh!"
Unthinking, I threw open the carriage door and jumped out. Oops. I forgot we were still moving.
