Awakening, I sat up slowly. My arms, legs, and side hurt from jumping out of the carriage. "Uugh." I had huge, dark bruises all over, but I was lucky I didn't get worse injuries. I was in a soft bed sitting against the wall, in a fancy-looking bedroom with a few windows. Why did I jump out of the carriage anyways? Oh, yeah. Oh, God! This was insane. I was insane. Something like this wasn't possible!
Someone had taken off my sopping wet hoodie and dried it. It was hung near the bed on a little rack. My phone, earbuds and fried peas were sitting on the table nearby.
The bedroom door opened, entering the magnificent 'One hell of a butler' Sebastian Michaelis, carrying a food tray. "Ah, I see you've risen-" "GEAAAH! HOLY S***!" I practically scrambled up the wall. He smiled. "Please, calm down. There is nothing to be frightened of. I brought you some food and drink."
I simply stared at him in terror. That's understandable, is it not? I mean, It's not every day you meet the main characters from your Favorite Anime of All Time---And with the knowledge that this butler could very easily do away with you, especially if he figures out the depth of your knowledge about him? Ah, no thank you. I'm not one of those FanFiction fangirl characters who go all "Squee!" and hug the anime character that has the full capability of ripping them apart. With bare hands.
I was still literally "up the wall" as he set down the tray of food on a nearby table and walked calmly to the bed. He held out his hand, "Please, do lay back down. You are injured. It would not be good for you to move around while in such a state." I assume that my eyes were practically falling out of my head in disbelief at this point. However, I managed to get back under the covers. "I apologize for frightening you. I must ask, however, why did you feel the need to exit a moving carriage?" I remained silent.
"I see." He picked up the food tray once again. "Here, please do eat, miss. When you are well enough I shall take you to the Young Master. He has some things to ask of you. For now, if you are in need of anything, I shall be nearby."
I nodded, hesitantly taking the food and drink.
Sebastian exited the room, leaving me alone with the sustenance. I picked at my food, a million and one questions running through my head. There were too many questions, and not enough answers, so I tried my best to just concentrate on the food. I had some sort of fancy seafood with a fancy garnish, accompanied by a fancy salad, fancy bread buns, and a fancy cake dessert to finish it. It was delicious.
After a few days of sitting in bed, I'd gotten slightly used to Sebastian coming in and checking on me. It was mundane to lie in bed all day; my cell phone beckoned to me from the table. But I didn't want to turn it on and use up its battery to have Sebastion or whoever come in and question me about this strange technology. The butler supplied me with a few books to ease my boredom, but they used strange, old-sounding terminologies that I didn't understand. To pass the time, I recited spells in my mind: "Argentum potestatem, argentum lux tollite hanc ego odi."
"Cerei lunae siderumque candela redde mihi meam curare vulnera et passiones."
"Of Roman paraffin, candelis cere, aufer iram meam rogo."
"Miss Miyako?" Sebastian. I looked up. "Do you feel as if your health has improved any?"
"Ah...Yeah, I'm feeling better.."
"Is that so? If you are feeling better, perhaps you would like to take a bath?"
"Yeah, a bath sounds fabulous."
"I shall promptly instruct Mey-Rin to prepare you a warm bath. Pardon, but would you like her assistance undressing as well?"
"No!"
"I see."
I undressed and climbed into the tub. The water was warm. Looking up at the ceiling, questions ran through my head like they had been in the last few days. I had grabbed my phone and earbuds before coming into the room. Pulling them out, I put the earbuds on and listened to the satisfying music.
After bathing, I dried myself off with a towel, put it around me and headed into the main bedroom in the guest quarters. There I found the maid Mey-Rin, hanging clothes in a wardrobe. She saw me and turned bright red. "Oh, I'm so sorry miss, yes I am! I didn't know you were here, I called, I did, but I didn't hear anything! Oh, dear!" "Ah...It's ok-ay..." "Pardon me!" She left the room quickly.
Looking through the wardrobe, I was disappointed. All of the clothes consisted of dresses and petticoats. That required corsets. That squeezed air out of my lungs. I'd heard it was quite suffocating. Needless to say, I was less than thrilled about having to wear the clothes of the time period. But it would be unacceptable if I went out dressed like normal. I needed to cause the least amount of trouble for myself. I guessed I was just going to have to bear it.
I was fiddling with all the strings and contraptions on the corset. Completely confused. Finally I gave up, pulled on a night dress and wandered down the hall in need of assistance. "Who'er you?" I turned around to see Bardroy. "And why do ya got...that thing in your hands??" I looked down. I'd forgotten that I'd still had the corset in my hands. "Oh." "Oh?"
"Is there a problem?" Sebastian showed up, appearing from nowhere. "Sebastian, who's this lady?"
"Ah, this is miss Miyako, one of our guests."
"Oh, nice to meet you, miss. I hope ya have a good time here at the estate."
"Thank you."
Turning to Sebastian and holding out the corset: "I don't know what the heck to do with this thing. "
He apologized and had Mey-Rin help me out with it.
"Gah...Can't...Flipping...Breathe...." "I apologize, milady, I do. And I'm terribly sorry about earlier, yes I am!" "It's alright, about earlier. Just a mistake--How the hell do you women wear these things??"
"We get used to them after awhile, milady."
"Impossible! I will never get accustomed to to this!"
"Which dress would you like to wear, milady?" Mey-Rin asked.
"Uuhm, I don't know much about dresses. I don't wear them. Could you pick one that you think I'd look good in?"
"Ah-don't wear dresses?--Certainly, I will pick one for you, if you wish."
I looked in the mirror. The end result: A long-sleeved navy blue, black and white dress that slightly hugged at the torso and went out slightly at the waist. Its length went down to my knees. It had a large bow at the chest and a white bow to go in my hair. It looked okay. But in my opinion, the appearance did not make up for the lack of air in my lungs.
Mey-Rin left to go and find Sebastian. I tried to get used to my garments, but failed. There was a knock at the door. "Miss Miyako? May I come in?" "Sure..."
"As I stated before, the Young Master has some things he would like to ask of you."
