Katherine's POV
For the next two days, the power was still off the only thing that worked was the car and cellphone except the internet refused to connect even with my data on. Our phone battery was already low. We are just glad the car was working just in case of an emergency. A while ago my dad went to our neighbor Mr. Jones and a few others to see if they heard anything. Eventually, my dad and a few of our neighbors decided to head over to Jeremy Baker's house, a police officer that just so happens to lives on this street, for some answers. Since he works for the city he may have some information. So, right now on this Sunday evening I and the rest of our family are sitting and waiting on my dad's return.
It was cool and scary at the same time knowing there are other species out there instead of just us Earth people. I wonder what do these alien creatures want and why is it always Earth that aliens want? Charlie was right when he said that there could be someone else living in our galaxy besides us. Man, I wish Charlie were here he could maybe shed some light on what could be happening since he is all into stuff like that. Until this stuff clears up my mom told all three of my siblings we are not to go anywhere.
"Katherine." I'm pulled out of my thoughts by my mother calling my name.
"Kat, I know nothing big has happened yet, but I want you to go get the emergency supplies ready in the basement and make sure we have plenty of can food and candles. Also, bring some candles and the flashlights back here when you are done." I nodded and made my way downstairs. You see we always had kept a small emergency supply in the basement ever since we had that F-2 tornado went through 5 years ago. Just in case another disaster happens. Thankfully the tornado did not do too much damage to our home and no one was hurt. The only damage was that our roof was ripped off some and the front of the house by just strong winds alone, not the tornado itself.
In the supply boxes, I counted that we had 50 Ravioli cans, 10 cans of corn, and 20 cans of small green beans. But, I can see some about to expire. We also had 2 packs of water, seven extra candles, and 3 flashlights. My parents have the other two flashlights. I grab a few of the supplies and a few Ravioli cans and headed upstairs. I head towards the kitchen table and sat the stuff down. As I was setting the stuff down I heard the front door open and close. I walked to the living room to see my dad walking further in the living room.
"So, what did Officer Baker say?" My mother asked.
My dad moved to sit beside my mother. "Well according to him he can't give much information in order to 'keep the peace'. Also, he was a little busy getting ready to head to the station in case they called him in on his day off. He said that one of his buddies from work came over earlier and said that the military has set up a front on the outskirts of town due to the fact that there unidentified enforcement vehicles there. Also told him to spread the word that no one is to go to work or school until further notice." I was glad we had no school but at the same time, the reason behind it kind of put a damper on skipping school. I really hope my friends are okay. Since my phone finally died, an hour ago, there's no other way to get in touch with them.
"Everyone we are not leaving this house for anything. Got it?" We all nodded our heads in understanding.
********
Later that night we ate sandwiches and some chips from the cabinet with some bottled water. As we ate we were talking about how we wished that we knew more of what was going on and that the power came back on.
"Dad what do you think these aliens want from us?" Rebecca asked.
My dad sighed and said, "I have no idea, but hopefully our military and our government are taken care of the situation."
"I mean come on guys it just started two days ago we are acting like it has been two months. Have a little faith." Jacob said.
"I guess Jacob is right. We need to stay calm and-" Suddenly, a booming sound cut my dad's sentence off from outside. Then another one went off that one shock the ground a little.
"What on Earth was that?" I asked.
Knock! Knock! We all turned our heads toward the door where there frantic knocks at the door. My dad looks at us then turn his back toward the door with hesitation and went to the door.
"Who is it?!" My dad shouted.
"It's me your neighbor Mr. Jones! Please let me in I have some news on what is happening!"
My dad hurried up and opened the door for Mr. Jones. Mr. Jones quickly rushed in and shut the door behind him. Mr. Jones is a heavy set, tall man, and tan skin. He is in his late fifties and retired. He was married once but he doesn't like to talk about his ex-wife. Some people say she may have been abusive to him and he was just too embarrassed to say it.
Mr. Jones made his way to the kitchen with the rest of us and my dad followed behind. Mr. Jones sat down in the chair. Once he sat down and pulled out an old looking pocket radio that looked to have run on batteries.
"I have been listening to the radio when the explosion sounds started." He said while turning the radio on. "The reports say that the military posted around the city is under attack."
He turned the radio had come on with a little static in it. The person on the radio began to speak and you can hear explosions in the background. "It appears that the people in the unknown vehicles are starting to attack the military outpost around the city of Atlanta." BOOM! "It appears that the soldiers are having a hard time keeping them back and to make things worst it seems that the unknown people have brought back up...OH MY GOD LOOK OUT!" BOOM!
The radio went silent all you could hear was static in the background no in the room dare made a sound. It was so nerve-racking droplets of sweat began to form on my forehead that was just how nervous I was. I did not even realize I was holding my breath until my throat started to hurt.
'VVVVRRRRRRRR' Everyone jumped when they heard the loud city warning siren go off. Then the radio started to make noise again. The siren soon stopped and the radio made some more noises. Then a muffled voice was heard and then it became clear.
"OH MY GOD! I wish you people could see this but is a giant spaceship heading towards the city. I would suggest to all people listening do not go outside take cover if you can."
"Come on! Grab some supplies as quickly as you can and head to the basement!" My dad shouted. Everyone even Mr. Jones frantically grabbed something and headed toward the basement. Then an idea came to me I headed towards upstairs while everyone made their way to the basement.
"Katherine! What are you doing?! You need to head to the basement, now!" My dad yelled after me.
"We need pillows and blankets who knows how long we will be down there!" I shouted over my shoulder. I heard my dad's footsteps behind me. I went to my room and he went to him. I grabbed a few pillows off the bed and blankets from the closet. Once I was done I ran to find my dad. He was in his room on the small balcony looking up with blankets and pillows in his hand.
"Dad we have to go," I said running towards him. Once I was beside him and looked at him. There was so much fear in his eyes as he looked to the sky. I turn my head to see what my dad was looking at. All I could say as I looked up in fear.
"God help us."
