Upon arrivng at at her fathers house Reagan parked her car behind her fathers SUV and walked to the front door. Just before she was able to open the front door, it was opened by one of her fathers security men. He was a tall man around 6'5 with dark brown hair, his name was Henry. He also happens to be the admrials best friend. He's been a part of her life since before she was born. He was a shoulder to cry on when she didnt have anyone else and an ear to listen when she had something she wanted to talk about and a play mate when she was a kid an had nothing else to do. He was also the one her father had teach her how to fight, as well as defend herself, and taught her how to fire, clean, and handle a weapon. He's practically taught her everything she knows now.
"Hey Mae"
"You know you're the only person on this planet that calls me that." she said as she hugged him."Speaking of you ever not gonna call me that?"
"Force of habbit Ray, you know im not gonna stop."
"So how ya been?"
"Oh you know the usual, standing for long hours. Dealing with a man who drives me to the brink of insanity almost everyday."
They both laughed at that.
"No in seriousness Ray, I've been good. Wifes happy, kids are happy and healthy, so i cant complain."
"Good! Reminds me i should call Nora, miss that lady, i'll see if she wants to get lunch one day and catch up."
"She'll love that. How have you been?"
Just before she was able to answer the question her father walked out of his study that sat to the left of the foyer.
"Reagan, glad you could make it." he said walking over to her and kissing her cheek.
Her father was a tall man, almost just as tall as Henry, standing at almost 6'3. His hair had gone gray but he had the whole salt and pepper look going on where not all of his natural hair color hadnt gone gray yet. He was a fairly fit man, also good looking for his age.
"Hi dad"
"Come with me, we'll talk in the study." he said turning and walking back into the study. "Oh and henry, you can go home"
"Night sir. Night Ray." he said as he left.
"Sit" he said montion to the chair infront of his desk.
"Nice to see you too dad"
"Tell me about your deployment" he said bypassing what she said completely.
"It was fine. Everything went almost as smoothly as any other time."
"Almost?"
"I completed my assingment, dont worry. There shouldnt be any residual effects."
"Reagan I know about the ambush. I know you lost men this assignment."
"Oh, here we go"
"You've seemed distracted lately. Do you feel like you may have been distracted? I've never known you to get caught off guard by someone"
"Seriously dad! I cannot believe this!" she said getting up from the chair, rolling her eyes. She was clearly pissed off. "Are you implying that those men died because i was distracted."
"No! Reagan im simply stating that maybe you just havent been as alert as you usually are! That ambush could have happened to anyone at any time. But you're my daughter! I know you! Like me nothing gets passed you." he said simply trying to get her to calm down. "Will you please calm down"
"No dad i will not calm down! I wasnt "distractred" as you say, I was completely alert. Like I always am!" she said as she started pacing. "I had a feeling that something wasnt right. That something was off. The entire time we were walking throught that town i knew something was wrong. I just knew it! But we pushed through, I went on with it anyway and we did our jobs."
"Reagan ypu could have pulled out. No one would have blamed you!"
"No! You taught me to never turn away! Never back down. It lets them think that you're weak or easily scared, hell maybe even both!" she said stopping and looking at him. " I did what i thought was right. Maybe if i had waited to save those girls, he might still be alive or tried a different strategy."
"Then it might have been you, my daughter, that got buried instead." he said looking her in the eye. As tough and as strict as he is, he did have a soft spot for his daughter. She was all that he had left, family wise atleast.
"Wouldnt have mattered, you almost had to bury me anyway." she said quietly.
"What?" he said pausing mid way as he was sitting back down.
"What do you mean what? Didnt you read the report? I know they sent you a complete copy"
"I was given a copy of the report yes and i've glanced at it but i've been really busy lately with work and havent had the time to sit down and read it."
"Of course you havent! Work is always more important isnt it dad! If it wasnt important enough for you to read then i guess its not important enough for me to tell you then!" she said storming out of the study.
"Reagan wait! Thats not whati meant!" he said just before she opened the front door.
"Goodnight Admiral" she simply stated before leaving.
"Reagan!"
Getting into her car she headed the short 20 minute drive to her home.
The last 4 months and 3 weeks of her deployment she spent working as much as she could, of course minus the time she spent recuperating. She tried as much as she could to keep her mind off of what had happened. She blammed herself for all of it. Rationally she knew that there wasnt anything she could have done to change or prevent any of it from happening. Ken and Aiden knew that something was up with her but no matter what they said or did she just brushed it off or just wouldnt even talk about it. Snapping out of her thoughts she pulled up to her gate, put the code in and drove up to her garage door and parked her car. As she was walking up to her front door she got the feeling that some one was watching her. She looked around but didnt see anything so she unlocked her door and continued into her house. Bypassing her front room she went straight upstairs to her bedroom. Deciding to wait to unpack her bag until the morning she just dropped it at the foot of her bed, slipped her shoes off and climbed into her bed. Realizing she was still in the clothes she napped in at gibbs house she thought it was weird how the admiral hadnt pointed that out, brushing it off she laid down and went to sleep.
