Outside, the sun was glaring. Air conditioning was pumping through the Garrison buildings, but it wasn't enough to stop everyone sweating. Hunk and Pidge were in the food lab, experimenting with ice cream flavours. Allura and Coran didn't seem much more than mildly annoyed by the scorching heat. Shiro, Keith, and Lance were lounging around, willing the heat to disappear. "What I wouldn't give to be in the ocean right now," Lance groaned, fanning himself with his hand. "Oh! I just remembered, the Garrison pool should be open now it's summer. They've got Garrison issue swimwear and everything," Shiro smiled, then added ruefully, "Sadly, I can't go... I'd short circuit!" He laughed. Keith perked up, "A real pool?" Lance's interest piqued as well, "One that's not on the roof?" Shiro nodded, "Yes, I-" He couldn't finish before the boys had glanced at each other then raced off. Smirking, Shiro rolled his eyes.

Keith and Lance headed straight for the lift, planning on getting changed into the Garrison swimwear once they got to the pool. Lance checked the little map stuck to the wall, "Uh, let's see... Floor Five, here we come!" They stepped into the little box and pressed the button marked '5'. Keith raised an eyebrow, "It's actually a decent temperature in here, what the hell?" Lance shrugged, "Well we're completely enclosed in this box, so the A/C has a chance to actually do something" Nodding, Keith tapped on the walls, "This thing is pretty solid..." Lance pulled out his phone, "Yeah, I haven't got any service. We wouldn't be able to tell anyone if this thing suddenly broke down..."

Clunk clunk CLONK!

The main light flickered off, and a strip of emergency red LED's flicked on. A female-sounding robotic voice declared:
'Something seems to have gone wrong. Please do not panic. There is no wireless service, but we are sending a message through the wires to Garrison HQ. A team will come and get the elevator working. Estimated time until repair is finished: 3 hours. Thank you for your patience.'

"Niiice job Lance," Keith sarcastically drawled out his words, "You had to go and jinx it, didn't you?"
"What? Hey! This isn't my fault!"
"I really need to stop getting into elevators with you, don't I?"

"Speaking of that other time, do you see any way we can escape?"
"Nah, we're completely boxed in. Nothing to do but wait, I guess..."

They sat down, leaning against opposite walls. Lance was alone with his thoughts.

Oh, Quiznak! I'm alone with Keith. Completely shut away from the world with Keith. Keith... Handsome Keith, talented Keith, caring Keith, POSSIBLY GAY KEITH!!! Is this my chance to make a move? No, am I stupid? Of course not... I don't even know if he likes me... I don't even know if he likes guys... Ugh, why is his stupid body and stupid face with his stupid mullet so stupidly hot!

"Lance?" Keith asked. "Y-yeah?" Lance stuttered, inexplicably worried that Keith could somehow magically read his thoughts. "Are you alright? You're blushing" Trying to look cool and indifferent, Lance looked to the side, "Oh, I'm still cooling down. Y'know, it was really hot back there." He was relieved to see Keith nodding - he had bought it. The minutes passed, and Lance soon became desperate to break the awkward silence. "Do you wanna do some would you rather's?" Keith shrugged, "It's not like there's much else to do right now..."

"I'm going to take that as a yes, then."

L: Would you rather have bowling pins for arms or legs?

K: What the- What sort of question is that?

L: C'mon - answer the question!

K: For arms - legs would be too unstable to support my body.
L: Nice... Now give me one!
K: Um... Would you rather... Freeze to death or burn to death?
