Bonk...

"Darn it!" Hunk frowned.

Bonk...

"Is this thing rigged?" Lance complained.

Swish!

"YESSS!" Pidge yowled, pumping her fists in the air. She had gotten the small basketball that could fit in the palm of your hand through the hoop that had been nailed to the wall of the lounge. There were couches encircling a coffee table, with vending machines, whiteboards, and televisions on the outskirts of the room. Allura was curled up on one of the couches, watching the human game with interest. Hunk was lying on a couch with Pidge perched on the armrest. Lance had another couch to himself. Shiro was standing, and marked a tally on the whiteboard under the name 'Pidge'. "Pidge is ahead by one point, followed by Hunk, then Lance, then Keith." Lance leaned back on the couch and groaned "Surely I'm not coming last?" Hunk shrugged, "Technically you're not last - Keith is." Lance glanced at Keith. Keith was sitting on the floor behind Allura's couch with headphones on, not talking to anybody. "I don't think Keith counts right now..." Lance muttered. Shiro made one more attempt to get Keith to join in. "Come on, Keith! You're team leader, you need to be there for your friends." Allura leant over the side of her couch and poked Keith in the shoulder, "Stop being lazy, Keith. I want to see more of the human game! It seems very interesting..." Reluctantly, Keith slid off the headphones and got to his feet. "Fine, I'll play some basketball if it means that much to you." Pidge hopped off the armrest to collect the ball and chucked it to Keith.

Keith threw the ball just as Pidge was returning to her seat. It ricocheted off of her head and landed at Keith's feet. "Hey, watch where you're throwing!" Pidge muttered, rubbing her head. Suddenly going into competitive mode, Keith crossed his arms, "I would've got that in if you hadn't been in the way - this isn't fair." Shiro, sensing a sibling argument bubbling up, stepped in and suggested, "Why don't we have people defending the goal then? Get into teams of two - Lance and Keith versus Pidge and Hunk!" Hunk and Pidge fist-bumped, ready to go. Keith opened his mouth to protest Shiro's choice of teammate for him, but Lance was already trash-talking the other team. "Oh, you're going down punks!" Lance looked like he really wanted to win, and Keith didn't want to take that away from him. "Alright! It was about to be Hunk's turn before, so he can go first," Shiro decided. Lance and Keith positioned themselves in front of the goal, while Hunk grabbed the ball. With a flick of his arm, it was flying in the air. Keith watched, surprised, as Lance sprung gracefully into the air and smacked it into the ground. "BOOO!" Pidge yelled, patting Hunk on the shoulder re-assuringly. "Tough luck, Hunk. Lance? You're up!" Grabbing the ball, Lance shook himself to hype himself up. Keith rolled his eyes, "It's not an international game, Lance, you're playing with a handball. Take the shot!" Lance turned around and flung his arms out to argue, and as he did so the ball flew out of his hands and straight into Hunk's. "Revenge is mine!" Hunk laughed, holding the ball in the air triumphantly. "Keith!" Lance scowled. Feeling genuinely bad, Keith wanted to make it up to Lance. He had been losing this whole time, and he really wanted to help Lance unlock his talent.

As Pidge was getting the ball from Hunk, Keith grabbed Lance and pulled him around the corner behind a couch. Startled, Lance started to yell, "WoAh HEY-" "Team talk!" Keith hissed, cutting him off, "How does Pidge usually throw?" After a moment's thought, Lance replied, "Really high. Surprisingly high, considering she's about the size of a peanut". Keith nodded, "Okay, here's the plan..." He whispered into Lance's ear.
After their team talk, the pair emerged from behind the couch. "Ready yet?" Pidge smirked, tossing the ball from hand to hand. "Ready when you are!" Lance smirked back. She chucked the ball high into the air. Keith grabbed Lance by the waist and thrust him into the air, high enough to grab the little ball as it almost grazed the ceiling. Clumsily, they swivelled around and Lance deposited the ball in the goal himself. Less than a second after, Keith lost his balance. "AAAAAAAAH!" The pair toppled to the floor, sprawled on top of each other. Screams turned to laughter, and it was many seconds before either of them made an effort to get up.

An orange moustache peeped around the corner. "Paladins, are you alright in here? I heard yelling!" It was the cheerful and unmistakable voice of Coran. "We're all fine, Coran. We're playing a human game called Ball-Basket!" Allura smiled. "Basketball," Shiro corrected, "The yelling was Keith and Lance forming their own version of Voltron... Without the lions." This resulted in another bout of laughter and a very confused Coran. After they had calmed down, Coran said, "Oh! Shiro, I almost forgot! I have a package for you." He scurried off to collect it. "A package?" Shiro said thoughtfully. "Do you know what it is?" Hunk asked. "Is it something cool?" Pidge added, excited at the thought of a mystery package. "I have no idea," Shiro admitted as Coran came back in with a cardboard box. The paladins all kneeled around the box as Shiro pried it open with his fingers - both metal and human. As soon as the box was opened, you could see a little note sitting on top of the contents of the box. 'Contents of Garrison apartment 238-B' it read. Shiro gasped and covered his mouth with his human hand. Keith was immediately by his side, comforting him. "W-what's wrong? What does it say?" Lance asked. Shiro was shaking, "I-i don't want to look. I have to go," Before Keith could stop him, Shiro had run off down the hallway. Keith stood up to go follow him. "Wait!" Hunk picked up the note. "Why is Shiro so upset? What's in this box?" Turning away from the paladins so he wouldn't see their faces, Keith simply said, "His life before the Kerberos mission." Nobody could say anything before Keith had left as well.
