How to Freeze

A few weeks passed, and it was almost for my family to take a weekend trip up to our cabin in the mountains. We went skiing there and each year I brought a different friend. We had been going for three years, so by now, I had brought Clarissa, Shane, and Lydia. I figured that since they had already been here, I could switch it up a little.

I had never brought a boy or even considered bringing a boy, but Quincy was the kind of boy that could be a great friend. It didn't have to be all flirty.

I asked him as we were going home in my car on Wednesday. He quickly said yes. I told him that we would leave on Friday. Since I was driving him home anyways, he would just put any bags he had in my car before school, then I would take him to my house and we would set off.

I went through Friday wondering how this weekend would go down. I had finally gotten off my crutches, so now I had on a boot. I could ski, but possibly not as easily as the other years.

When Quincy and I finally got to my house after the gruelingly long day, my parents were already getting the car packed.

The drive was only an hour and a half, but we still had snacks and some drinks because when we finally get to the mountain, we'll still have to go grocery shopping before we can eat a real meal.

The car ride was nice, considering that everyone in the car was extremely used to social events and making small talk. We talked about school, sports, the Christmas Ball, and college.

Quincy and I were both juniors with high grades. We were actually looking at most of the same colleges. We knew which colleges were the best because our parents had great connections inside the universities.

As for vocations that we were considering, I wanted to be shoe designer, and Quincy wanted to be either a professional sports player or a college professor.

For the most part, we were following in our parents well-paying footsteps.

Once we got to the cabin, Quincy and I started dusting everything off and pulling plastic off furniture while my parents made a quick shopping trip for food, as I've already mentioned.

I pulled out a pot and ran water from the faucet. Then, I stuck it on the stove to boil, so that we could put cocoa powder in it when my parents got back.

After that, I gave Quincy a quick tour of the cabin, and we turned on the news. My parents were taking their good ole time, and we were beginning to wonder what had happened. Just then, the next news segment came up. There was a huge traffic jam on the highway that the grocery store was on. It was snowing pretty hard, and the speed limits had been reduced for safety.

We knew we were gonna be here alone for a while, so we decided to put on our snow clothes and go for a ski.

I took Quincy to the resort to grab our skis, and then I brought him to my favorite mountain.

My boot problem was interesting. We couldn't have the ski strapped too tightly, since then it would hurt my foot. But it still had to be tight enough that the ski wouldn't fall off.

We finally managed to get it just right. I went down the slope first, then Quincy came tumbling after me.

He had started off just fine, then near the end, he started fumbling, and then he ended up rolling down the hill on his side.

He was fine, but I knew that this was going to be a quite interesting weekend.

Quincy was pretty bad at skiing. To say the least. I think he spent more time sliding down the mountains than he did skiing.
