Zoe and Kate were briskly walking to the Kites office. Kate was doing her power walk, and Zoe was trying hard to keep up. Zoe was dressed in a fancy pastel pink knee length dress with a lot of ruffles. Kate suddenly stopped at the sidewalk and whipped around to face her sister.
"You are going to make me late. Can't you walk a bit faster Zoe?" Asked a very pissed Kate.
"Why did you stop then?" Counters Zoe and looked up across the street. That's when she saw it. KITES LTD. It was a tall grey building with lots of glass and metal structures. Zoe felt her enthusiasm withering. The place looked boring and dull.
"I always wondered how my sister got so boring, now I have my answer! This building will suck the fun out of people!" Stated Zoe with feeling.
"Shut up and walk! Don't open your mouth too much. You talk nonsense anyway! And most importantly don't stick your nose where it doesn't belong. It's not like the store. Act a bit dignified here. Don't embarrass me!" Advised Kate hotly.
They walked into the building and Zoe looked around in dismay, her mouth agape at the sight she sees. People at the office are all dressed in black, grey or white. Everyone has a serious, no nonsense expression. 'What am I going here? This is not a place for me!' Her mind screamed.
Kate knocked on the door to the HR office. The woman behind the desk invited them inside. As they sat across her, the woman went through Zoe's resume. Zoe couldn't help but fidget as the silence wore on. Finally the woman looked up and asked "It says here your longest work experience is three weeks?" Inquired the woman.
"Most people lie about their work experience. Not me though! I am completely honest about every thing in my resume." Answered Zoe with pride.
Kate glared at Zoe forcing her to shut up. The woman was silent as she continued to scrutinize Zoe's resume. Zoe was uneasy again. She looked around the office taking in everything; pinned on the notice board was a Deutsche Bank monthly announcement notice. After Zoe read the notice, her eyes spotted a photo on the desk. It looked like a child of 16, with a striking likeness to the woman.
"Is that your child?" Asked Zoe, pointing at the picture.
The woman's face creased in a fond smile. "Yes" she answered softly.
"Your son is really handsome. Don't ever bring him to the office. The girls in the office are going to go crazy over him. He is going to break a lot of hearts! Keep him close!" Complimented Zoe happily.
"That's my daughter!" Corrected the woman with a scowl.
"Really? She looks like a guy. Must be the mustache! Looks like she inherited that from you!" Zoe finished weakly.
The woman pursed her lips in a tight line. Kate now close to livid. "Shut up now!" She mouthed to Zoe.
Kate's phone lighted up signalling a call from her boss Edward Jobs. She picked up the phone and walked out of the interview room.
"Hello Mr.Jobs" greeted Kate as she attended the call.
" Where are you? Have you got the files ready for today's meeting? I am on my way over." Inquired Edward on the phone as he drove his Audi Q7 down the street.
"I'm at the HR department. My sister, Zoe is being interviewed for a job opening in our company. I came with her for moral support. Don't worry about the files, they are already at your desk!" Assured Kate.
"I didn't know that your sister was applying for the position. If she is anything like you, I have no issues recommending her for the post. We are always in need of hardworking and dedicated employees. Please put the interviewer on the line. I need to have a word with her. Don't worry, your sister is hired." Assured Edward.
