X Ambassadors

I sat in the middle of the dance studio- legs crossed, eyes closed. I was playing the choreography in my head, over and over again, checking, praying that it is good enough.
Before I showed the committee my dance, I wanted practice one more time with Shawn, but we barely spoke in the two weeks since the almost kiss. Practice was really awkward like that, obviously. Especially when we were alone he wouldn't even look me in the eyes, or speak to me. He'd answer basic questions like: 'Can you do that?' or 'Wanna do it again?', but nothing concerning us. Nothing like 'How are you?' or 'Can we please talk?', but I wouldn't give up hope.
I still sent him a message, hoping he'd show up.
And the heavy door- separating the hallway from the studio- opening and closing indicated that he did.
It was quite late already, almost 11 pm. No one was here anymore that time of day. Except for me. And Shawn.
"You asked me to come", his voice echoed through the hall, reverberating from the slanting, asymmetrical walls.
This room was called the ballroom. The walls weren't really like walls should look like, it was more like small pieces set together in a crooked, yet beautiful way. every now and then there would be a mirror inbuilt in the walls.
When I heard him slowing down and finally standing still, I opened my eyes and stood up, turning to him.
"Can we please practice one more time? I'm really nervous about tomorrow.", he nodded and took off his shoes and jacket.
I've never seen him so cold. Well, maybe I have, when he helped me out with my ex boyfriend Jackson, but being the target of that freezing cold. It was horrible.
"Can you please stop acting like this?", I bursted out and that took him by surprise.
"When you start telling me the truth. Start telling me what you feel. Can you please just let me in?"
"I'm trying!", I say with distraught.
"Really? Because each time I try to get closer to you, to figure you out, you push me away, and I'm tired of it."
"I'm sorry", I grabbed his arm, before he could grab his stuff and go.
"You keep saying that", he mumbled, but stayed put.
"It's just, that I'm really trying to let you in. I really want to, but I just can't. And I don't know what's wrong with me.", I feel tears filling my eyes, but before I could fight it, they ran over my cheeks and I sank to the ground with my hands over my eyes, so that Shawn wouldn't see.
But what was the point of hiding.
That's what he was trying to tell me was wrong.
I felt his strong hands on my shoulders and then he wrapped his arms around me. I started sobbing uncontrollably, but he stayed, pulled me closer, held me tight.
Until I calmed down he held me. Then he softly dried the tears on my cheeks with his hoodie sleeve.
"Thanks for letting me in", he said with a tender voice and smiled at me before he planted a soft kiss on my forehead, "Now, do you wanna go over that choreography again?"
