𝐌ike Wheeler was looking at the clock waiting for the numbers to rise up one digit. He had been sitting like this for the past half an hour. He had a phone in his hand and the other was fidgeting with a plastic dinosaur, he was waiting impatiently. The sixty seconds stretched into hours and his eyes were fixated on the structure right in front of him, the fort was still in the same place, everything clean and as tidy as it could be. He had refused to put it down due to... 9:00 pm! Mike half-heartedly smiled and quickly dialed the number for the Hawkins Police Station hoping that somebody answered. They did.
"Hawkins Police Station," how may I help you?" answered a voice.
"I would like to report a missing girl," he said clearing his throat a bit and glad that his voice had lowered this past year.
"Has she been gone for more than 24 hours?" asked the voice in the other line.
"Yes, she has been missing for a year," he responded.
"Could you please tell me more about this girl?" Said the voice and a little smile formed in his lips remembering the girl.
"She is around 12 to 14 years old, "
Nothing had happened.
"She has a shaved head,"
Still nothing, he was growing impatient.
"She responds to the name El-"
The call was cut off. Just like he wanted. He listened to the static for a few minutes before hanging up. Mike left the phone on the ground and sat down in the fort taking out his walkie-talkie. He took four deep breaths to follow the same ritual, it was making him crazy but she was making him even crazier. He searched for an empty channel filled with static, the sound rocking his nerves, you would think he is used to it but there was always that hope.
Hope to hear her voice whisper softly his name, to see her poking out of a corner or maybe to find her in the forest, huddled up in a ball, waiting. He rehearsed his lines carefully making sure the message was clear and easy to memorize and after two more seconds he pressed
"Day 365, I am gonna get you back El,"
