I say goodbye to Ify and start going down the stairs because Timini called me few minutes ago and told me to come down. When I reach outside the gate, I immediately see him standing by the side.
“Hey” He says when he sees me. I notice that he is trying so hard to maintain a cool exterior; he isn’t even smiling.
“Hi” I say with a small smile.
“Okay, let’s start going” He starts walking ahead and I follow suit.
We don’t talk throughout the short walk to his lodge. The tension between us is so thick that it could be cut with a knife. When we reach a building that looks just like the building Ify stays in, he stops walking ahead and enters the gate. We walk into the building and take the stairs to the second floor, and then he stops at the second door by the left. He brings out his key from his pocket and opens the door.
He enters the room and motions for me to join him.
“Welcome to my little home” He says and walks towards a door; he opens the door and I notice that the door actually leads to a little veranda. I look around the room and observe its details. His room is painted in different shades of grey; it is really unique and mature. He must really like grey because his bed sheets are also grey. The whole room is sparking clean and the room smells like a mixture of mint and a strong masculine scent; it is intoxicating. I also notice that every single thing is in place.
Normally, when I go to Ify’s room, there is always something wrong. It is either the bed sheets are not properly arranged, his shoes are scattered on the floor or his clothes are lying on his table. Nonso’s room is even worse but looking at Timini room, I can tell that everything is completely arranged; his tiled floor is sparkling clean, his bed is beautifully dressed, his books on the table close to the bed are perfectly arranged, his shoes are settled on top his wardrobe and I can’t see a single piece of cloth lying freely.
Wow, that’s really impressive even for me.
“Are you just going to keep staring like that or will you come sit down?” Timini voice pulls me out of my thoughts. I turn and find him staring at me weirdly with an eyebrow raised dramatically.
“Your room is beautiful and really clean; it’s like I can see my face on the floor.” I say without thinking.
I see a small smile form on his lips but it goes almost immediately.
Why is he trying so hard to be mad at me?
“What were you expecting my room to be like? A mad person’s house?” He says with a small smirk on his face.
“I actually expected it to be really nice but it’s impressive. Boys usually don’t have time to keep their environment this clean.” I tell him.
“I just can’t help it, you know. I can’t think straight when my environment is scattered so I make sure it’s as clean as it can be.” He goes to the bed and sits down with his back resting on the wall behind. He beckons for me to join him with his hand so I move forward and sit on the bed close to him.
“Believe me when I tell you I understand. In this case, I think we are the same people. Dirty places make me mad” I release a small laugh but stop immediately I find him staring at me blankly.
We stay quiet for some minutes and the tension just keeps growing till I can’t help but talk.
“Stop this” I say finally.
He turns sharply to look at me with a brow raised, “Stop what?”
“Stop trying to be mad at me. Why are you acting mad when I know that deep down, you must have forgiven me. This is really awkward and I don’t like it. The only reason I like hanging out with you is because we always connect on a different level and there is never any awkwardness.” I say in one breath.
