I shot up from the sofa and simultaneously, so did Jacob from his knees. I couldn't quite read Khalil's face, it looked a mixture of intimidation and if anything, displeased with the whole scene he had come home to.

-Yet I'm sure we hadn't done anything wrong. It wasn't like he'd caught me having an affair or anything, yet weirdly, guilt was eating fast away inside of me. And an ounce of fear.

Jacob stood a distance from the sofa and before I could say anything, he steadily strolled over to do the honours of introducing himself like nothing had even happened, -not that anything had happened.

"Hey, you must be Aaliyah's friend, I'm your neighbor, Jacob. Nice apartment," he complimented with a friendly tone, smiling from ear to ear whilst he stuck his hand out for him to shake.

A part of me almost died inside when he said the word 'friend'.

Khalil glanced at me, something about his eyes full of coldness and hurt, growing darker and darker by the second but he resumed back to Jacob in a heart beat.

"Khalil, and yes you could call me that," he introduced coldly. Should I have been hurt he didn't mention that I was actually his wife? But then again I'd just done the same to him so it wouldn't be right to question further.

"I was just going actually, Aaliyah just got herself into trouble by accidently cutting herself," he explained, as I cringed quietly at the sound of my name.

"She did, did she?" he asked, glaring my way as I stood timidly holding both my hands close to me.

"Yeah well she's fine now," Jacob assured and looked back, smiling wholeheartedly, ''Just make sure you re-stock on your first aid, and keep it clean," he adviced the both of us.

"Mm, I'll make sure of it," Khalil agreed," He sounded particularly annoyed now, the tone of his voice seemed rather rude as a hint of sarcasm danced on his choice of words.

"Well I'll be off," he informed Khalil, "It was nice meeting you Aaliyah," his eyes lit up once again as he grinned before I got the chance to see fully and I lowered my gaze.

"You too," I muttered carefully, attempting not to make any form of direct eye contact with Khalil.

He left our apartment in a swift, without further word, leaving both of us just to stand there acknowledging eachother's awkward presence. Not exactly awkward, but more so intense. I finally gathered all the strength I had to speak.

"Er hi..." I sighed heavily and began explaining, "See I tried to make dinner for you b-but I accidentally cut myself, so I went looking for a band aid but you didn't have any, I called your phone and it went straight to your receptionist and she said she'd let you know, the food burnt and Jacob came to help me out because the fire alarm went off and, and-"

"STOP." he growled viciously with his hands in his hair.

I froze on the spot and gulped in a fright.

"If you tried calling me, why didn't I get the bloody message?" he said furrowing his brows whilst slamming the door shut, making me leap out of my skin.

"I-I don't know," I stuttered, but I knew exactly why he didn't get it. That Melanie girl obviously hadn't bothered to pass on the message.

"That's not good enough,"

"Well your assistant isn't good enough,'' I mumbled harshly.

"What did you say?" he asked, stepping a few inches closer to me, his body towered over mine and the shadow that had been created on the floorboards had crept up on mine.
