Chapter 6 - "Home"

"You know, I never got your phone number.", said Daniel as he got up from his seat. We arrived to his destination and he pulled his back pack. "Yeah, let me write my phone number and text me so I can add you to my contacts." He nodded and gave me a piece a paper and I wrote my phone number. He waved goodbye and got off the bus.

The bus continued to the next destination, which was my home. Daniel and I figured out that we lived near each other, so if he ever wanted to visit, he could do it easily. And vice-versa of course. Then the bus came to another stop, my siblings and I got out of the bus and made our way to our house. Mom was already waiting for us in the living room sitting on the couch.

"Hey my little monkeys! Did you liked your first day of school?", she asked with excitement. Kendall's eyes were full of light while he was talking about his day. His eyes were getting brighter with each detail. "And then, I met this really cool person! His name is Connor and he's from the soccer team. We practiced a bit on the field and he said that I got skills, so he invited me to join the team!", he said with joy and clapped his hands to emphasize his happiness.

"But, what about your guitar lessons? What will happen with that?", asked mom with a long face. Seems like she really wanted her son to play the guitar. "Oh well, I was thinking on taking guitar lesson later. Next year maybe? I just really liked playing on the field." Kendall stated and we all nodded. Mom still had a sad face, but accepted her son's decisions to play on the field.

"What about you, Andrew? Did you got to make friends?", asked my mom placing her hand on my brother's knee. He slowly shook his head, letting us know that he didn't made friends. "Everyone seems me unlikeable, I spent my free time on the cafeteria. Alone, obviously." My brother Andrew looked really disappointed in himself, I then suggested, "You know, you can hang out with me if you want on free time. I made a friend and he's really cool, his name is Daniel. I think you will get along." Andrew nodded slowly and smiled.

"Daniel huh. You and I need to talk about him.", said my mother with a slightly angry face. I mentally gulped and asked the Lord to give me strength. ".. Yeah?", I said slowly. If she finds out that I was wearing a binder and that everyone in school calls me a transgender freak and that that was the reason why I cut all my classes today, I am toast.

"I got a call from your school. They said that you cut classes with that boy Daniel.", my mom said and sat straighter and took a sharp breath in. "Look Josh, I know how you feel. You meet some boy and you just wanna do everything with them, but you shouldn't do that."

Wait, what?

My mother kept on rambling about how I should have school as my priority and not let some boy crush prevent me from having a good life. I nodded every now and then, I would've told her the truth. But if I did, she would've known about me being transgender. I ended up apologizing and promising that I wouldn't do that again, and she embraced me with a hug and excused herself to her room. Kendall, Andrew and I were left in the living room.

"Soccer team huh? Since when you can move those chicken legs?", I asked with a smirk. He chuckled and gave me the middle finger. Andrew turned on the television and Kendall and I made our way to our rooms. I opened the door and the same sweet feeling I had on the first day welcomed me to my room. I threw my back pack on the side of my bed and I took my phone out. There was a message by an unknown number, it must have been Daniel since I gave it to him on the bus. I opened the message and it said:

"Hey J, can we meet?"

It was kind of obvious that the message was from Daniel but I still felt uncomfortable not knowing who it was. And as if he read my mind, he sent another message.

"It's Daniel by the way. Lol."

I sighed in relief and replied to him.

"Sure, where do you wanna meet?"

"Let's go to the mall. Come to my house in 30 minutes."

With that I hid my phone on my pocket and went to my mother's room. I knocked on her door and she opened it. "Hey mom, can I go to the mall with Daniel? No funny business, I promise.", I asked and she nodded. "Please don't come back late. Remember to be back before 8pm to eat." She said and closed the door. It wasn't a rude thing for her to do, it's actually pretty normal of us to shut the door once the conversation ended.

I went back to my room and changed clothes. I wore a Spiderman sweater with the same black jeans I wore for school. Once I finished ready, I exited my room and grabbed the keys. Kendall spotted me and asked, "And where are you going?"

"To the mall!", I said quickly and made my way to the front door. "With Daniel?", he asked knowing all too well the answer for that. I rolled my eyes and said, "Yes Daniel. I'll be back before 8pm to eat with you guys." He nodded and I left the house.

The cold breeze hugged my warm body as I made my way to Daniel's house. I know Daniel for just a day and I feel like I've known him for years, that's why I agreed to going out with him. But, I wonder why he wanted to hang out all of the sudden.
