Three days later Ahmad stood in front of Darius's apartment contemplating ringing the doorbell or using his key. For the past three days, Darius had been calling and texting him almost every hour. Initially, the phone calls had been full of worry and cuteness, but after Darius saw the apartment, the phone calls became threatening and rude. Ahmad was hurt by the lies, the deception, and the secret life Darius had been living. Charles and Navarre tried to get him out of his sullen mood, but Ahmad kept them at a distance. His heart was hurting, and after heavy contemplation he returned to the place where he learned the truth, at least part of it. Today he was back to hear the rest of it from Darius and then to pack up his shit and head back to Jersey to stay with Shelly.Feeling like it was now or never, Ahmad walked up the stairs and used his key. He walked into the apartment found Darius sprawled out in the living room watching the game. When Darius noticed Ahmad he instantly shot up off the couch. Ahmad was ready for anything Darius might do and gave him a cold look. Darius was apprehensive but finally backed up with a look of rage in his eyes.
Ahmad went into his back pocket, pulled out the folded invitation and threw it towards Darius.
Darius looked at the invitation and back up at Ahmad with a puzzled look.
"So you're going through my shit now?" Darius asked bending down to pick up his wedding invitation.
"Unbelievable, you're getting married and all you have to say is you going through my shit now?" Ahmad asked getting flustered and trying to control his emotions.
"So this is why you broke up with me?" Darius asked shaking the invitation. "Over some bullshit."
"No, what's bullshit is the fact you not only fucking someone else but you're getting married Darius. What the fuck was this some double life, side nigga ordeal?" Ahmad voice began to elevate.
"No, this WAS some deep ass love shit, but you had to fuck it up. I tried to tell you" Darius responded.
"TRIED TO TELL ME WHAT DARIUS, YOU WAS CHEATING ON ME? YOU LIED? Tell me anything, I could care less, this shit right here, whatever we had going on is over." Ahmad walked towards the bedroom to retrieve his things.
"So that's it huh? You think it's over cuz you say it is." Darius chuckled. "You got it all figured out huh Ahmad, this shit ain't that simple."
"I'm tired of this crazy shit, I'm out." Ahmad went into the dressers pulling out clothes.
"You gonna listen to what I got to say," Darius followed him and grabbed his arm gently.
"Darius don't touch me," Ahmad shook away, with a look of pure disgust.
"Sit down." Darius demanded pulling him towards the bed. "Come on chill, just sit down."
"What is it; I'm tired of listening to you." Ahmad sighed as he finally sat next to Darius on the bed.
"I'm only marrying Taliah because she's pregnant." Darius informed him.
"She's pregnant too, ok it's time to go now." Ahmad leaped back up but Darius pulled him towards him, a little too forcefully.
"Shut the fuck up and listen. Sorry, I mean just listen. She told me if I didn't marry her she was gonna make me pay child support. Ahmad I don't got no legal job, fuck I'm gonna do, I don't need no court system putting me under the microscope I'm hot. And I did try to tell you, you was running around with yo friends that night when I set up the house." Darius explained making up the story as he went on.
Ahmad remembered the night and couldn't believe the intimate candlelight dinner wasn't preparation for romance but heartache.
"That's bullshit, you should have told me from jump. Darius I can't trust a word you say." Ahmad responded looking into his eyes.
