The next day at school, Ashton completely ignored Luna. When Mason tried to talk to him, Ash just said, “I don't want to hear it.” and walked off. He isolated himself from everybody that day, too angry and depressed to talk to anyone. Normally when Ashton gets depressed, he doesn't show it. He acts like it never happened. This made Michael and Luke grow worried, Calum too. At the end of the day, Luna grabbed Ashton's arm as he began to walk out of the room.
“Ashton, I have to talk to you. Now.” She said sternly. Ashton sighed and followed her outside. She leaned against a tree and looked deeply into Ashton's eyes. “You've been acting weird lately. That day I came, I thought we could be friends. But now you are avoiding me. I've noticed that you really don't like Mason. He's not that bad a guy once you get to know him. Can we be friends again? Can you get along with Mason?” She asked sweetly.
Ashton growled, “I can't ever get along with that bastard. We were best friends from 1st to 5th grade. In 6th grade he got interested in girls and took every single girl I gained a crush on. He also started bullying me in early 7th grade. He's a pervert, a liar, and has a terrible mind stuffed with mean plots and schemes. He told me he's hated me from the beginning. He embarrassed me in front of the whole school last year. And now he's taken someone I have grown a love for. I'm sick of him. I'm giving up on love.” He sighed at the end.
Luna stood there shocked. “Taken... someone you have grown..... a love for?” She asked reassuringly.
Ashton put his green bandana back on his head and took his green, plaid tie off and stuffed it in his pocket. Suddenly, Luna gave him a sincere hug. Ashton just stood there, staring behind Luna in confusion. Luna then gingerly let Ash go and grabbed his hand. “Come with me.” She ordered. Ashton followed her deep into the woods until they ran into a little, faded purple and white house. “What is this place?” Ashton asked.
“This is an abandoned house I discovered a few days ago. It's where I take Mason when we skip homeroom and Algebra.” She replied.
“Oh... you brought that Melbournian here....” Ashton muttered. Luna glared at him. “Ashton... I now know why you don't like him. But... I love him... yet at the same time, I feel something towards you.” She said softly.
Ashton looked bewildered. Luna sighed. “It's.. complicated...” She said quietly. Ashton followed Luna inside the house and they both sat on the sofa. They put their bags on the floor and adjusted their school uniforms. “I need to accept the fact that Mason will always ruin my life. And I need to accept that you love him and nothing will change that.” Ashton surmised. “You don't know that for sure....” Luna implied.
Ashton's mobile phone started ringing. He answered it instantly. “Hey, Mikey..... Yeah I'm coming to practice..... Luna took me, yeah. Sorry to hold you up......Alright, mate. Who's going to get Calum? …...Okay. Tell Luke and Cal that I'm coming. Thanks, mate. See ya.” And he hung up. Ash slung his bag over his shoulder, adjusted his bandana and left. “Ashton! Wait!” Luna called out. Ashton stopped walking and looked behind him. Luna ran to him and forcefully made her lips connect with his. After a few seconds, she pulled away. She had a sweet expression on her face, while Ashton looked confused and disturbed. “I gotta go.” He stuttered.
**** At Michael's house.... ****
“She kissed you!?” Michael proclaimed. Ashton nodded his head and grabbed his drumsticks from his pocket. “Yeah. I have no idea why. I thought she loved Mason, but she said it was 'complicated'.” Ash explained. Calum shook his head and sighed. “French girls..” He uttered. Luke strummed his guitar. “C'mon guys. We need to practice “Heartbreak Girl” The boys played the song over and over and over. After the 6th time playing, Luke suggested playing another song. “How about, Out of my limit?” The boys agreed and played that song about four times.
Ashton wiped his sweaty forehead and said, “Let's take a 10 minute break.” The other guys nodded and all went into the kitchen and got some water. Ash walked to the door and opened it, wanting to get some fresh air.
“You played very well, Ash!” Luna exclaimed.
