Long Game

This happens when Maya is 19 and Josh is 22. I know it's not accurate to the GMW story plot but idc.

Her eyes were cemented onto the floor, as the soft music filtered itself through the room, Katy's arm linking itself with Turner's as they walked down the aisle. It was Katy and Shawn's wedding day, and she couldn't've been happier, well, sort of. Maya was happy for her mother, she was, but she was also sad, because she was alone. Josh had left the day before for his new job China, and Maya wouldn't let him stay. He insisted on staying, but Maya wouldn't let him hate her for letting him stay just for her. She cried all night. Her heart ached, she had never felt this type of pain before and the pain kept her almost paralyzed. All Maya could do was replay the memories of the night to days before in her head, as if it were happening right in front of her.

"Maya, please open the door baby." Josh spoke throught the door, as Maya wept on the bathroom tile. "C'mon My, let me comfort you." he said, turning the knob.

"No!" she scread as a reply. "Just go Josh!" Her tears fell to the foor as she heard a sigh and footsteps slowly walking away. She gripped her arms and hugged herself, weeping her sorrows into hercurled up knees.

She didn't realieze anything that was happening around her until the bathroom door swung open with a clearly disheveled Josh right in front of her. His face was red and puffy, and his hair was a complete mess, clearly he was crying. "Maya, baby, talk to me." he whispered, sitting down and pulling Maya into his lap. She didn't even fight him, she just collapsed into his embrace, her cries being muffeled as she placed her head into Josh's chest, her arms grabbing his back as she embraced him in a tight hug. "Talk to me Maya." he whispered into her ear, placing a chaste kiss on her temple.

"I don't want you to go-o" she hiccupped through her tears. He just sat there listening to her cries. "Why did you wait to tell me?" she cried. "Why did you hide it? Now you have to leave tomorrow." she said, squeezing him tighter.

Josh closed his eyes tightly, hearing the amount of pain he caused her. "I know baby, and I'm so sorry." he said, gripping her tighter. A tear fell down his cheek, followed by more until his eyes were spewing like a neverending river.

It was almost two hours later and they were both sitting on the bathroom floor still, but this time they were silent, the only thing you could hear was their breathing. Maya raised her head to look at Josh, her ocean blue eyes meeting his chocolate brown. "I want you to go to China." she whispered slowly.

"Maya I-" Josh started but was interrupted.

"I want you to go so you can live your life. Long game remember? You live your life and I live mine, this is your life Josh, and I'm not gonna let you stay here just for me." She bit her lip, trying to hold back tears. "I want you to go to China and workat your dream job, find someone new, someone better than me."

"No one is better than you My." Josh apoke, his words laced with nothing but adoration and truth.

"I want you to be happy Josh. And you're gonna be happy in China with your new Job and your new Asian girlfriend named Julie. Just like in Friends." Maya said, her voice cracking as tears fell from her face as she imagined Josh with someone else.

"No Maya, I don't wan-"

Maya placed her index finger on his lips and shushed him. "Shhhh. You live your life, and I live mine remember?" she said, carressing his face. "I really wish that I could be a part of your life, but I can't. This is a good opprotunity for you Josh, take it. I'm not gonna hold you back."

"But Maya I need you to underst-"

"No." she said. "You're gonna go to China, you're going to love your new job, and you're going to fall in love with a beautiful Asian women named Julie who will love you and take care of you, and you will never once even think about me okay? You need to live your life, and I need to live mine, and I think it's been made pretty clear that I'm not supposed to be a part of your life anymore." she spoke softly, salty tears rolling down her cheeks.

A loud sensation brought Maya back from her trance. Clapping. Everyone was clapping. Her mom and Shawn got married. She plastered a smile onto her face and started to clap. "Maya." She looked to her left to see a soft smile on Riley's face. "Are you okay?" she asked.

Maya nodded. "Yeah." Her smile faltered into a stone cold expression. "Come on, let's go to the hall." she said, grabbing Riley's hand and dragging her to main hall. She dragged Riley to their group of friends where they all stood in a circle. As soon as Riley started talking, Maya zoned out, thinking, almost dreaming of her tragic heartbreak.

"Maya just say the words and I'll stay." Josh whispered in her ear, the bustling noise of the airport dissapearing as Josh spoke.

"No." she said, squeezing him in a hug. "I want you to go." A tear fell down her face.

"Maya, this is my decision, not yours." Josh said.

"And I'm not going to let you make the wrong decision." she said, her voice cracking.

" But - " Josh tried to interject.

"No." She cut him off. "You live your life, and I'll live mine. Long game. Remember?" she asked, grazing his face gently.

Now boarding flight 203 to China.

"That's your ride." Maya whispered, her eyes glazing over with tears. "Goodbye. I love you." she whispered, hugging him tighter.

"I love you." he replied, stroking her blonde hair as he left a kiss on her head. "So much." he squeezed his eyes close.

"Maya." A nudge waked Maya out of her trance. "Maya." Riley whispered as she nudged Maya again. "Look." she pointed to a figure across the room.

Maya looked up, her voice hitching in her throat as she caught sight of her ex lover. A disheveled Josh. Tear stained, red puffy cheeks, messy hair, and he was out of breath. He ran. He ran back to Maya. She thought she was dreaming. This couldn't have been real, because Josh left. At least that's what she thought. She took a step forward, and so did he. Five seconds. She took another step closer, him moving swifter than light itself. Four seconds. His eyes shined and a smile appeared on his face. Three seconds. Two moresteps taken. She could see the brown of his chocolate glistened orbs. Two seconds. They were an arms reach from eachother. One second. They were right there, face to face. They could feel eachothers breathing, that's how close they were. He reached out and pulled her into his embrace. Maya felt relieved that he was real, that he was there. She could feel his hands moving all over her back and she let out an exasperated breath that she hadn't known she had been holding all this time. Josh inhaled the scent from her hair and squeezed her tighter. "I missed you so much My." He let out.

Maya looked up, Josh pushing hair out of her face as she gazed into his eyes. "What are you doing here?" she whispered.

"I missed you." he said, bending down and kissed her on her cheek.

"But Josh, you were -" Maya tried, but was stopped.

"Yeah I was, but I didn't." He bit his lip, placing a strand of hair behind her ear. "This was my decision to make, do I get a say in it?" he queried.

Maya shook her head no.

Josh laughed. "Too bad." he smiled. "I never wanted to go to China, that's why I waited so long to tell you because I never wanted to go." He squeezed her tighter as she bit her lip, waiting for him to finish. "I love you too much for that My. Way too much. And I would never hate you for wanting me to stay because I love you so much and I'd do the same thing if I were in your shoes." he said, placing a kiss on her temple. "I'm here to stay baby, and that's never gonna change." He kissed her lips passionately, taking her aback, but soon her mouth started to move in sinq with his. A loud uproar of applause broke Maya and Josh out of their moment, them both realising everyone saw what just happened. They both laughed and stared into each others eyes. "Long game?" Josh asked.

"Long game." Maya assurred him.
