Rain was pouring and I could hear the sound the droplets made as they hit the window next to my bed. I positioned myself and turned to look over at my phone on my bedside table. I turned it on and it was 6 o'clock. I groaned and pulled the sheets over my head, and then threw them off. I had to get up for work, and get a Starbucks. I got up and practically ran into my shower to wake me up. The nice hot water was so refreshing on such a cold morning. I finally got out and changed into my work clothes, I put my light brown hair up into a bun and applied foundation to hide all the bags I had from sleeping so late at night and waking up early. I looked into the mirror and saw those tired green eyes staring back at me. I hated looking at my eyes sometimes, the painful reminder of my grandma, she almost had the same colored eyes I do, and she had just recently passed away.
"Avery?" My mother called from the kitchen as I made my way down the stairs.
"Yeah, Mom?"
"Are you leaving for work?"
"Yeah, I'll be back at 4:00 today."
"Oh good. Well bye sweetheart, be careful."
"Bye, Mom." I said before shutting the front door to my house.
I lived with my parents still, they supported me through everything. I worked at the hospital as a nurse, I worked in the mornings, and then left for college in the afternoon. I wouldn't get home until 9:00 and the late nights of doing homework and studying were starting to catch up with me.
I got into my car and started to drive to Starbucks because I really needed one this morning. I was having trouble trying to stay awake for driving, and I needed to be fully awake for work. I couldn't risk falling asleep or not being able to attend to a patient correctly.
I finally got to Starbucks and I was so happy I was going to be able to get a coffee this morning since I had so much time left before I had to get to work. It was 7:00 and I didn't have to get to work until 8:00 but I always got there early to drink my coffee and buy something to eat from the little shop they have back at the hospital. I walked in and the aroma of coffee filled my nostrils. I loved the smell, I wish I could work there, but the college bills weren't going to pay themselves and I had to help mom and dad.
"Good morning, what can I get you today?"
"A grande Caramel Macchiato."
"Alright, that will be $3.79. And your name?"
"Avery."
"Ok, I'll have it ready in a minute."
"Thank you." I went to sit down and wait until they called my name to get my coffee.
"Avery?" I finally heard my name.
"Grande Caramel Macchiato?"
"Yes, thank you." I gave the girl a warm smile before making my way to the exit. My phone rang and I got it out from my pocket, I was opening the door with my back when I suddenly turned to face the front and I felt my phone drop and my coffee spilled as I had bumped into a man.
"I'm so sorry." I started to say.
I had napkins in my hand and I started to try to dab the parts of his shirt that had coffee on them.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" His deep voice startled me.
I walked back and I realized who it was. It was Mason Holland. He was the owner of Holland Corp. I cannot believe I spilled coffee all over the owner of Holland Corp. I'm really screwed now.
"I really am sorry." I said.
"Can you at least go get some more napkins? I'm already late to work." His voice was demanding. I rushed back inside and got more napkins. I hurried back out where he was waiting.
