Kelsey's POV:
"Did you finish Mr. Smith's homework?" Audrey asks as I pull my Calculus book from my locker, glancing at myself in the small mirror on the locker door. "The lab report? Yeah." I shut the small door before glancing at my best friend, "But I'm guessing you didn't." Her eyebrows raise as she starts talking, "I forgot until I saw your Chemistry book. I meant to, but-" I keep a grip on my textbook as I start to dig through my side bag, pulling out my book report, "Here, copy mine. Afterall, we are lab partners." She smiles, taking the folder from my hand, "Thanks so much, Kels. I owe you." "How about a french vanilla latte after school?" I grin, leaning against the row of lockers as the warning bell sounds. "I can do that, but I better get to Literature so I can copy this before Chemistry next period. Meet here after class?" "Always." I nod. "Tell Calum I said hey." I yell, grinning when she turns to face me, her cheeks tinting a pink color.
I start down the hallway in the opposite direction of my best friend, digging through my bag when I hear my phone ding, cursing when I realize I forgot to turn the sound off. My hand finally grasps my phone, pulling it from my bag, eyes scanning over the text from my dad saying he would be home late tonight. "Shit." I mutter when I bump into someone sending mine and their books to the floor. "I'm sorry." I mumble, going to pick up my book when they do it for me. I stand up and meet their eyes as they hand me my book, "It's okay, Kels-" "I take back my apology." I hiss, stepping around them, making sure to bump their shoulder as I go.
"Kelsey, wait!" Luke yells, chasing after me. I walk faster, clutching my book tighter to my chest. "How long are we going to do this?" he asks as he catches up to me, walking at my side. "I'm going to be late for Calculus." I mumble, trying to walk faster than him, but failing as he easily keeps up with my strides in conclusion to his long legs. "I'm sure Mr. King wouldn't even notice if you didn't show up. The man just sits at his desk the whole period, reading the newspaper." "That's not the point." "How long are we going to do this?" I ignore him, thankful when the Calculus room comes into view. "Can't we just forget that happened?" he asks, stepping in front of me causing my steps to stop, my eyes narrowing as I stare at him. "I'll never forget what you did to me." I whisper. My eyes grow huge, and I groan when the late bell rings, "You've got to be kidding me." I mutter, throwing my head back.
"Hemmings, McNeal!" I turn and find Principal Matthews standing at the other end of the hall. "Hemmings, I can't say I'm surprised, but Kelsey, this is totally out of your behavior." I bite down on my bottom lip as he inches closer, glancing between the blonde haired boy and I. "Mr. Matthews, it was all me, don't blame Kelsey-" "Both of you, detention now." "But Mr. Matthews, I make straight A's, I'm an active member in five school clubs, I play volleyball, and I've never been in trouble once, I'm begging you to not do this." "You should have thought before you decided having a chat with Mr. Hemmings was more important than getting to class on time." "But I wasn't-" I start, but Mr. Matthews interrupts me. "Both of you head to room 318. I'll call Ms. Stacey in five to make sure you two made it there. I'm sure you guys will find time to finish your conversation on the way there." He walks down the hall and back into his office right before I turn to Luke and put a finger on his chest, "Stay away from me, Luke. I don't know what made you want to fix our friendship all of a sudden, but it's not going to happen. It wasn't going to happen before detention, and sure as hell ain't happening now."
