"Do I look okay?" I asked Jess, as I eyed myself in the mirror. I decided to go for straight hair, since this would make me less.. black I guess? "I like curly better on you." I admitted and I rolled my eyes. "I'm just doing it for Mr. and Mrs. Styles."
"Why do you care about them?" She gasped, "I just want to impress." I said, and grabbed my keys. "Let's go." I told Jess. My clothes were plain, so were hers. We had to wear a black pants, a white blouse with a black tie. I decided to make my outfit with not to high pumps complete, well actually Jesse. "I feel so stupid with them." I uttered. "No you don't." I sighed, "What if I fall?" She turned on her high heels and demontrated me her supermodel walk. "I can even run in them. It's easy to not fall with them."
On the back door of the hall was a man waiting for us. He told us his name was Marcello and he led us to the kitchen. "You know how it works right?" He asked with a noticeable Italian accent. Jess and I nodded. It was very simple, we had to bring food and drinks to the tables. Marcello handed us black vests. "Thank you." Jess and I thanked him. As if the tie wasn't enough. I took a platter with drinks on it, and nervously balanced it on my hand. "I'm so excited to go out." Jess uttered. "You go first." I said and she frowned. Not even her deadly gaze would make me open that door. "Please." I pleaded and she gave up. I nervously followed her through the big hall. The hall was crowded, music was playing, but no one was dancing. The hall itself was very beautiful, something I would only see in a movie. It had something, that reminded me of a Greek palace, with all the marbled pillars. "Leticia!" I heard a female voice behind me. I slowly turned around because of the tray on my hand. "Hi Clarissa. Nice to see you... again." I said, faking a smile. "Me too. And nice to see you." She said in Jess' direction, "Same." She nervously mentioned. "So you are waiting tables?" Obviously. "Yep. I thought it was great opportunity." She nodded, as if she was really interested in what I was saying, but she was not. "So your brother got engaged?" She nodded, "Yes." She reached out for a drink on the platter, "May I?" I nodded, "Of course."
"I need to introduce you to my parents." She said and took a sip. What? I
Why would she do that? She knew how her parents were towards people like me. "I don't think it's-" She interrupted me, "Come on, uhm do you mind taking this?" She asked Jess, as she took the platter out of my hand and gave it to her. Jess didn't respond, I gave her an help-me look, but she only shrugged and looked sorry. I followed Clarissa with a feeling that felt like you would get sentenced to an execution. I eyed Clarissa, who looked stunning. She wore a red lace dress which complimented her bright green eyes. Her brown lose curls, bounced perfectly with every step she took and her golden Louboutin peep toe pumps made her look even more expensive, than she already looked. I didn't realize, that we were already on the table. "Hello Mr. and Mrs. Styles I'm Leticia West, nice to meet you." I greeted the not so friendly looking couple on the table. Both greeted me, but they didn't look like they wanted to know me. Well guess what Leticia, they were racists! "Nice to meat you too darling." She said, in a very pleasant British accent. I awkwardly stood there, and didn't know what to say. "I think I better go now." I gave them a smile, before I left. "Oh and Leticia, this is Josephine, my brothers fiancé." She said. The pretty blonde reached out for my hand. "Nice to meet you Leticia." She shook my hand, but it felt uncomfortable. Her cat eyes under her long lashes intimidated me. "Congratulations." I congratulated her. "Thank you." Her red lips formed into a smile. I small talked with her and then left. Our conversation was very awkward, but she was nice and sweet. I didn't expect her to be so friendly towards me.
As soon as I drew closer to Jess, she already began to ask me questions. I told her everything and she grinned. "That's so awesome!" She said a bit too loud. "Not really.." I took the platter out of her hand, as I noticed her struggling to keep the balance. "Sorry.."
"Did you see the engagement ring?" I nodded, "It was huge and beautiful." She giggled, "What?"
"Sounded like you were talking about something else." I frowned as I realized what she just ment. She could be so immature sometimes.
"So what are we gonna do next?" I shrugged. I scanned the room for tables to wait, but my eyes soon landed on a tall guy, who was talking to another man. He wasn't even standing that far away from me, not too far to recognize his mesmerizing green eyes. A dimple appeared on his cheek, as he laughed about something the man just said. He looked too good to be true, he looked like someone, you would see all over magazine front pages. I melted inside, when he ran his long fingers through his hair. "Earth to Leticia!" Jess interrupted my day dreaming. "Forget it.." She told. "What?"
"Forget it. You stand no chance with him."
"Who said I wanted to date him?" She rose one eyebrow, I gave up because she caught me. "Fine, he is cute." I pretended to look for tables, only to allow myself, to steal one more glance.
"And he is engaged! He is the reason, why this party is happening. And he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Racist." I gulped, "Oh.. oh. Oh! That's too bad. I-"
"Really like him?" She tried to end my sentence. I shrugged, "I think he is cute that's it." I said, and walked away. I walked too fast, and spilled the drinks on me. "Fuck." I cursed under my breath. I saw Jess rushing towards me. "Jesus Leticia!" We both looked around, "I'm sorry." I apologized. "Go get something to wipe that away."
A few moments later, I came back with a lot of napkins. "Thanks."
"I smell so bad." I grimaced. "I'll go clean myself." Now I was lost in the crowd of people. I had no idea where the bathroom was. If Clarissa's parents would see me like this. I walked down an empty hall, but soon stopped when I heard a voice. I could here a strong British accent in the voice. I slowly drew closer, and found him leaned against the wall. "Sorry, but do you now where the restroom is?" He got off the phone, and gave me his full attention. "It's right.. come on I'll show you." He said, which made me happy and nervous at the same time. "What happened?" He wanted to know, as he noticed the huge red stain on my white blouse. "Bad luck I guess. I think I can throw it away." He smiled. "Bad luck?" I nodded. He stopped, "Here we are?"
"Thank you." I looked at my blouse and sighed. "Do you have any tips for getting wine stains off cloth?"
"No.."
"I can't go out like that." I groaned. "I could give you mine." He ordered. "What? No no."
"Why not?" I shook my head. Because I know that you have a toned body and this will kill me right in front of you. "Because you don't need to."
"Wait a moment." He told and disappeared for minutes. After a while he came back with a blue shirt and gave his white one. Well, I actually hoped for him to get naked in front of me. "Thank you." I shyly thanked him. "No problem." I gave him a smile and than disappeared in the restroom to get changed.
I never thought that I would were something from him. The sense of expensive men perfume and something that had to be his inherent smell, had an almost intoxicating effect on me. Seriously if this was the smell I would go to bad with every night, I wouldn't know how to keep my hormones under control. I inhaled the obsessive making smell for a couple of times and than went out. "You're still here?" I was hoping for him to say that he was waiting for me. Okay I needed to chill, I just behaved like a junkie, when I smelled on his shirt. He looked lost in his thoughts. "I think I made a mistake." He almost whispered. "What? Why?" He shrugged and than looked at me. "I guess I have bad luck. To be honest, I don't wanna go out there anymore."
"Why? It's your party.."
"Harry." He said, when he noticed, that I wanted to say his name. "Yes, Harry." I smiled. "I know but.. I think I-"
"Harry?" Our heads turned towards Josephine. "I was looking for you." She told and than kissed him, not in a romantic way, it looked forced. I could cringe right now. "Hey Leticia." She said and than turned to Harry again. "Let's go." She sounded annoyed.
He rolled his eyes and took her hand. "See you than.. Leticia." He smiled. The way he said my name, was like music you would hear, when you entered heaven. "Bye.. and Harry? Congratulations." He smiled, so did Josephine. "Thanks."
