When I woke up again, the sky was no longer blue. Instead, it was a fathomless black, illuminated by countless stars. The beauty of it was indescribable. I felt my heart clench, knowing that back on earth I would never be able to experience this.

I lost in the gaze of the stars when I heard the sound of rippling water. That's when I noticed I couldn't hear the waterfall. I sat up, looking in the spring's direction and seeing no waterfall. I scanned the dark landscape and felt my heart accelerate. There, in the spring, near the stones, she was swimming. I watched as her body, illuminated by starlight, flowed through the water. The way she swam, it was like watching a fish slowly, gracefully make their way through the water. She went under for what seemed like eternity, and resurfaced by one of the smaller jutting rocks. She touched the stone, pressing her forehead against it tenderly, then hugged it. The rock was twice her size, so her arms only went half of the way around. I watched her as she floated there, and I knew that something was wrong. She was crying. Why was she crying? My chest heaved with a painful weight, and without thinking about it, I got up and started walking towards the spring. I saw her slowly lower herself into the water so that only her nose and her eyes were above the water. I felt the softness of the black sand, then the warmth of the water as I stepped in. That's when I noticed there was a thin layer of steam above the water.

A hot spring.

I walked in deeper until I almost reached her. That's when she noticed me. She whipped around and brought her hands to her chest, lowering herself deeper into the water. I couldn't help but look at her and notice the way her hair was slicked back, or the way her eyes shone, or that she wasn't wearing anything. I felt heat rush to my cheeks as I stepped back.

"I'm sorry, I just..." I said as she looked at me with an expression I couldn't decipher. "Nevermind." I said, turning to go back. I felt her grab my arm and turn me around to face her. She threw her arms around my wais and hugged me, hard. I stroked her hair slowly as she cried into my chest. I was trying hard to ignore the fact that she was naked, but her hugging me like this wasn't helping. I could feel the way her chest rose and fell harshly against my torso as she sobbed, and it hurt to see her like this. As mad as I was at her for killing me, but my heart couldn't help but ache.

"Meaghan..."

"I love you. I love you, I love you, I love you." She cried into my chest. "If you don't love me please tell me now, because I can't...I can't."

I wanted her to look at me, to meet my eyes, because words could not describe what I felt for her. But she wouldn't look up. She let go of me, and stepped back, never once looking up, never once giving me a chance to show her what words could not explain. I tried to reach her, to hold on to her, but she kept on moving back.

"Meaghan wait!" I screamed, but she was already under, getting farther and farther away from me. I wouldn't let her go, I couldn't. She must've taken my silence as a no...I felt my eyes welling, anger building up within me.

Why didn't you say anything?

I dove under, trying to see if I could swim after her, but I couldn't see anything. I resurfaced and raked my hair back from my face harshly. I punched the water then, because I knew she wasn't planning on coming up anytime soon. I swam back to the rock she had been hugging and climbed on top of it. I sat there, waiting for her to come back up, but she never did.

I woke up as I felt my body break through the water and fall in. I swam back up, coughing out water. I must've fallen asleep and fallen off the rock.

Holy shit, let's never do that again.

I looked around but I couldn't see her anywhere. I swam back to the shore and stepped out of the spring, shivering. It was cold. I walked back to where I had fallen asleep earlier before, but she wasn't there. I looked around taking all of it in for real this time. There was a single, large, grey tree towards the middle. Around it were medium sized rocks covered in moss, the whole ground was covered in pale, pink violets. Behind the big tree there were several other trees, but these were much smaller and had ivy growing on them. Behind me was the grey stone that encompassed this world. I ran towards the big tree, careful not to step on the violets. I noticed then that the smaller trees created a sort of an archway. I bent over a little bit and walked through the strange path the trees had created until I got to her. She was curled up on the ground, her back was to me. I kneeled by her, then tenderly made her face me. Her eyes were bloodshot from crying and she just wouldn't look at me.

"Look at me." I whispered, softly. I noticed how a cloud of condensated air formed when I whispered. Jesus, how cold was it in this place? She didn't look up.

"Look at me." I whispered again, this time with a little more force. Her eyes slowly met mine, and I could see how much it hurt her. I brought my lips to hers and I kissed her, but she didn't kiss back. I pulled back, confused.

"Rowan, you don't have to do this." She whispered.

"I want to do this. You never gave me a chance to answer you. You wouldn't look at me, you wouldn't let me show you that there's no one in this whole entire universe, dimension, or whatever else, that I love more than you." As soon as I said it I knew that I meant it. I was always doubting myself, whether I meant what I said or not, but this time, I knew that I did. She crushed her lips against mine, and after what had seemed like forever, we kissed like that first time. It felt like we were one.

"I care for you more than anything." I whispered in her ear after we pulled back. I then kissed her neck, laying down next to her and holding her as the temperature within the space rose.
