"Movie theaters make me depressed," Tom said grumpily. He spoke from his spot on the compartment seat.
All of us--literally, the whole marvel cast--decided to take a train trip to different places. And I wanted to go to a movie theater in the next town we stopped at next.
I dropped my cellphone onto Lizzie's lap on accident. "They make you what?!"
Holland looked up at me. "Depressed. As in, I don't like them. Not one bit. I've been to way too many in my lifetime!"
Lizzie made an o with her mouth. "Tom, I really hate to be the bringer of this news, but my lovely girl here," she pointed at me. "Absolutely loves movie theaters. I think she might marry one."
Tom looked away. "I don't wanna go."
I picked up my cell phone and pretended to throw it at him.
He ducked. "What?"
"Stop saying that," I growled. "You make me depressed."
He scoffed. "Next thing you know you'll ask if we can go see Infinity War in theaters!"
"I was gonna suggest that, yes," I admitted.
Lizzie laughed loudly. "You're gonna cry so hard!" She howled. "Hey Tom," she chocked on her laughter. "Make sure you hold her tight!"
Tom jumped up, grabbing my hand. "Let's get out of here."
I stayed still. "You're the dum dum who brought this on yourself." I wrenched my arm out of his grip. "If you hate movie theaters, then stay here. I'll find some other handsome man to take me."
Tom's eyes went wide. "Oh, um, no." He shook his head.
I scoffed. "Not up to you!"
"I'm your boyfriend, it's my job," he said, close to my face.
Lizzie jumped up and scampered from the room.
I sighed. "Now you take responsibility, huh?"
He frowned deeply. "Excuse me?"
I rose my eyebrow. "Now you take responsibility! Before, you weren't my boyfriend. Now you are? What happened between...then..and now?"
"Then I was an idiot, now I think you should back down," he hissed right back.
I straightened my spine. "That escalated quickly."
"Don't change the subject," Tom said, low in my ear.
"No, I'm serious, where'd all this come from?" I angled my face to glare into his eyes.
"Maybe," he snarled, face closer. "It's from those past months of us ignoring the fact that someone lied!"
I resisted the urge to shove him away. "I didn't lie."
"'You didn't.'" he deadpanned. "Oh, and what, I did?!"
"Yes!" I shouted. "Yes, you did! Next time you're dating Zendaya on the side, let me know!"
He remained silent.
Lizzie stood in the doorway, hand over her mouth. The train hit a bump, and my mouth brushed Tom's.
I ignored that. "I loved Z. And you. I loved you both. Then you went and hooked up behind my back. Who's the liar, Holland? Huh? Who?"
He squared up, shoulders tense, attempting to be taller then the short, smol boy we all know he is. "Well, I'm not the one who had an affair with Harrison, now am I?"
I scoffed. "Oh I don't know, you very well could've! Did you cheat on me with him, too?" I gave a hysterical laugh.
Tom's dark eyes grew darker. "I didn't cheat. I never did that. WHY WOULD I CHEAT ON YOU?!"
I didn't retreat like I wanted to. "I don't know! Why would I ever cheat on you?!"
Tom's jaw tensed. He was going to break it with the immense pressure he put on it. "I'm not exactly the most amazing person on this planet, am I?"
His tone had become low and dangerous, making me suddenly prefer the shouting.
"No, you're not," I snapped. "You're not at all. Thanks for accusing me, again. When I want to have a relationship where I'm always in the wrong, I'll date you again! For now, I think I need someone who trusts me!"
Everyone was silent.
Lizzie remained frozen, in shock.
Tom's eyes showed fifty shades of pain.
I felt really bad. Really, really bad.
I couldn't believe all that was pent up in me for the past three months.
We'd ignored the argument, tried to pretend we weren't bothered by the rumors.
Looks like rumors bite you in the ass regardless.
Tom finally relaxed. Actually, he slumped away. He covered his face with one hand and pushed past Lizzie.
Lizzie stared at the floor. "That was a mistake, Y/N."
I screamed.
She jumped, staring at me. "What the hell? What is your issue?!"
I grabbed a pillow, and laid on the tiny bed. "The person who just shoved past you, Lizzie. That's my issue!"
"No, Y/N," Lizzie shook her head. "He wasn't your issue. He was your solution. You're both just so hot-headed, you can't back down. And you can't help but fear the other will leave. Here's the thing," she sat down on the floor next to the bed. "You are both so good looking and rich, you don't know who to trust. But, you're both so so so stupid!"
I bit down hard on my lip to avoid throwing my pillow at her.
"Don't you see that he'd never do that to you? And clearly, you'd never do that to him." Lizzie patted the bed. "You need to never ever say stupid stuff like that to him again."
She lowered her head, blonde hair falling over her face. "You'll lose the best thing you've ever had."
I pulled the pillow up to my face and full-on bawled into it.
I cried to hard I didn't notice Lizzie wrapping her arms around me.
I didn't notice when Tom came running back to my compartment at the sound to check on me, and I missed Lizzie waving him away.
I didn't notice when Lizzie crawled up on the bed, holding me to her.
I just cried.
I messed up.
Royally.
That night, Tom tried to get someone to switch bunks with him.
I know he did this, cause Robert dragged him back to mine and said, "take back your frog and boyfriend cause we don't want him whining at our doors at two in the morning, comprendo?"
I had sat there, eyes swollen and nose rubbed raw, and remained silent.
Robert had sighed. "Alright, you two need to make up. Forget the silly mistake, okay?"
He shut the door behind Tom, who looked away.
He climbed up to his bed without looking at me.
And that's how we fell asleep.
