kennedy
i heard a knock on my bedroom door and placed my pen and notebook at my side as i muttered a small, "come in."
seconds later my door opened to reveal a nervous looking ethan, his hair tucked away in the hood of his black sweatshirt.
"hey." he says quietly, closing the door softly behind him.
"hey." i smile, watching him as he stands there, his hands stuffed into the pockets of his grey joggers.
he shifts on his feet awkwardly and looks down to my soft carpet, taking a deep breath.
"what's wrong?" i ask, sitting up straight on my bed.
"i was gonna, uhm-" he pauses and looks back up, "i had something to tell you." the serious tone of his voice concerned me, ethan never acted like this. i scooted to the edge of my bed as i listened to him.
"you know eden?" he asks, pursing his lips together. i nod slowly and cross my hands over my lap, slightly anxious to hear what he had to say.
"she was a distraction." he sighs and looks back down to the carpet, his bottom lip tucked under his teeth.
i furrowed my eyebrows, "a distraction from what?"
ethan shifted uncomfortably again and took a deep breath as he made his best effort to avoid eye contact with me.
"from you." he replies, looking up at me with a guilty look on his face.
my heart stopped. what did he mean? does he like me? i sat there in complete silence, my mouth slightly agape, having no idea what to say. and the only person running through my mind was grayson. while his twin brother stood in front of me.
my silence obviously gave away how i was feeling because ethan began towards the door.
"ethan." i managed to say, "wait."
i had no idea what i was doing. but i was so confused right now.
he looked back to me, a look of disappointment written on his face.
"what do you mean?" i ask, "i don't wanna assume anything." i clarified, not wanting to get his hopes up. i felt shivers run up and down my body as i watched ethan approach me, but they weren't good ones, not like the ones i felt with grayson.
"i uhm used eden." he sighed, "because she's my age and it's reasonable and she's not my best friends little sister." he rambles, "i like you kennedy." he chuckles nervously, shrugging his shoulders.
"eth-" i begin, but he cuts me off.
"don't worry about me though kennedy, i know about you and grayson." he reveals, making my heart drop to my ass. i began to feel a little light headed, scared of what he was gonna say next.
would he tell zach?
"but i'm not gonna tell anyone or anything." he says, "i just needed to get it off of my chest" he smiled awkwardly.
"how long?" i asked, referring to how long he has liked me, "and why?" i laugh. i never looked at ethan that way. yeah, he was hot. but he was literally my second brother and he is the only person i am closer to than i am with zach.
he scoffs, "since i was in 8th grade." he shakes his head, "it's stupid and i don't really know why." he smiles, showing his teeth and looking down to the floor.
"oh." i smile, "lets try not to make this awkward then?" i offered, sitting up straight onto my bed once again.
"good idea." he chuckles awkwardly, "are you uhm, are you mad at me?" he looks up at me, furrowing his eyebrows with concern.
"no ethan" i laugh as i shoot him a small smile, "how did you know about me and.." i trail off, obviously referring to grayson and i.
"i saw you guys coming back from wherever last night. your front porch isn't really the best place to make out." he laughs, running a hand through his hair.
"oh."
"yeah, i'll get out of here." he begins towards the door slowly.
"thanks for telling me." i smile.
"you bet" he smiles back, exiting my room.
and i'm left there wondering what the fuck just happened.
do i tell grayson?
