Taehyung's POV
Water - check, map - check, silenced pistol - check, knife - check. Everything that I needed seemed to be here, at least I hope so. From what I remember, the building wasn't that far from the base, so bringing not much weapons shouldn't be any problem. Our mission was just to check the area out since we haven't had the chance to make sure the place was clear, although I did pass the place a few times, there wasn't that much zombies.
Leaning by the beat up metal door, I waited patiently for my two other team mates. Currently, it was still sunrise, the time where survivors don't usually walk for some reason, but the less people, the less trouble - I guess. Even if there were no wandering people around, the walking corpses were no less dangerous than they already were.
I wonder, if the whole outbreak never happened, what would have become of us? Would our group still bond the same as now? I don't know. I wouldn't know. Even if I did know what would happen, it can no longer happen, the world is far too deep in this war between the living and the dead. I can just hope things can get better over time.
"Hey, you ready?" the sound of a husky voice snapped me back to reality, flinching from the sudden voice. My head looked to the side, knowing who is was.
"Let's go," I nodded. I took my hands out of my pocket and pulled the door open, the sunrise seeping through the crack. Shielding my eyes, I squinted, unable to see the path up front.
As expected, I was met with the silence of the abandoned school hall. The windows were shattered, boarded up with wooden planks. What used to be new blue lockers, were now decrepit and flaking. Across the hall, through piles of scattered old school papers, was the entrance.
Yawning, I tilted my head to the side, my eyes locking on familiar footprints. They were the footprints of Junseo and his troops. Yesterday made my blood boil with hatred. "It wasn't part of the agreement," is what Namjoon hyung had said. Yet they refused to give up and - well it ended with my group completely down for short.
"Do you really think the tape is really in that building?" Hoseok said, humming a familiar tune Jin always hummed when he cooked. He waddled closer beside me, hands in his pockets and out from the morning cold.
" Well I don't really know. I mean, why would a random old VHS tell us to go in that building? For all we know it could just be a clip from a very bad movie," I said. The thought of an antidote for the virus was something I don't think ever existed, since the outbreak was so sudden I wouldn't think there would be enough time for a cure to be created.
"Everyone be quiet, we're approaching outside, we can't have ourselves be attracting anyone," in front, Yoongi whispered. His black jacket covered the rest of his clothing, though it wouldn't be surprising if all he wore were everything black. As usual he wore a straight face, hiding his true emotions. In truth, he was nervous, all of us were. By now you would've thought we'd get used to these by now, but it hasn't even a full year - everything was still new, fresh in our minds.
Walking as silently as possible, we strode over to the clear road, having aware of our surroundings. From what I see, the road was clear of cars, but the decomposing corpses of the previous zombies we killed before, still hung in daylight, rotting.
I felt my stomach churn at the sight of the exposed organs, some scavenger birds eating away the meat. It was disgusting. I wonder, do animals get viruses, or would the virus only be made for the human body?
As I turned my head back to the front, Yoongi and Hoseok stopped. I leaned to the side, seeing a couple of infected. 3 to be specific, each for one of us to handle. My hand on the handle of my sharp dagger, I took a deep breath. I was never used to this despite nine months of bitter hell, I was never the type to kill. I rather hug them to death rather than this.
Slowly approaching the walking corpses, my other two teammates did the same, each with a different tactic. Yoongi first kicked the knee of the zombie, disabling it from walking any closer, then stabbing it on the skull to finish it off. Hobi on the other hand crept a bit closer, not being noticed by it, then using his hatchet to ram the head off.
My zombie didn't look that old, which meant it was infected not too long ago. Pity. Swinging my arm, I jabbed the dagger inside the skull, putting force until it dropped low on the ground not moving. It felt weird, they were once human before, but now they were nothing human, a bit by appearance, but nothing sort of it. Retrieving the dagger back, I wiped off the remaining blood on the blade, putting it back into its holder.
Pursing my lips from the unpleasant smell, I turned back to the others. From looking at the street sign, we were only half way there.

The unpleasant smell of decaying flesh intensified as we turned the corner. No wonder why Jimin always covered his nose, the smell reeked with foul odor.
Coming to a halt, taking big strides to the edge of the building, I peeked to the side. Half my head poked out, covered by the brick wall. What I saw in front of me sent chills down my spine. Twenty - no, I can't count how much there were, there were far too many tattered walking corpses. Gulping in nervousness, I looked back to Yoongi and Hoseok. Their expressions almost the same as mine. Hobi's face turned pale, lips open wide. Yoongi's eye twitched, biting his lip.
We can't take all of the zombies at once, it was far too risky. Avoiding the infected, the three of us slowly tiptoed away, careful not to make noise along the way.
"Shit," Yoongi cursed under his breath, "we were almost there too."
"Look there's a ladder! We can climb up and see from bird's eye view," Hobi said. He pointed his index finger towards the rusty ladder near the garbage bin.
"I don't think that's safe. One hit of that thing can attract lots of them," Yoongi responded, his eyebrows knitted together.
"It's worth a shot," I said, waddling towards it. I know, it doesn't seem to be a great idea since with one mistake can end us all, but trust me, I've made bad decisions before but it all worked out fine - for the most part.
Taking a deep breath, I made sure my weapons were in place, wouldn't want them falling now. Grabbing on to the rusted handles, I pushed myself up onto the steps. As I climbed higher, the more scared I got. Looking down - regretted everything. The height seemed so high up, I felt butterflies in my stomach. I continued up, not looking back down just in case I got so nervous I might let go and trample down on my Hyungs.
As I pulled myself up on the top building, looking down was the two climbing too. Yoongi was first, he didn't dare to look down, a bead of sweat dripped down his face. Despite acting cold and bad ass, he really is just a smol cute man. I mean, yeah he is cool and all, but most of the time he's just quiet and acts as if he doesn't care - which he does. Reaching his hand up, I grabbed it, pulling him up onto the roof.
Hoseok was next. He shivered in fear, a frown on his face. He hated heights, hated insects, hated snakes, hated everything that can attack him.
Stumbling to the ladder, Hobi grabbed on the railings, sighing. He pursed his lips, "You can do this, you can do this," he repeated. Steadying his breathing, climbing up as slowly as he can. Afraid of plunging to the bottom, he kept his eyes up, never looking down. As soon as he was at the last step, slipped. Shit.
"FUCK!"
