Three days since going out with my girls and I was just getting over that stupid hangover. I didn't even think I drunk that much but now I'm sitting here dreading the thought of it as I wonder how the hell I end up being stuck at work today. It was 8:30 am, and I was sitting here in the stock room of Playa Medical Plaza on what was supposed to be my day off. Today was the semi-annual blood drive event, and I was NOT in the mood for it.

The stock room door opened suddenly.

"I knew I would find you back here." Said my supervisor, Melody. She was a super preppy looking white chick with long copper hair, which she had in a braid similar to Elsa's in Frozen. Ir was outside of her standard low ponytail. "What'cha doing?" She said with a smile.

"Dreading this whole day," I was knelt in the chair, using my feet to swivel it from side to side. I was holding a full box of gauze pads in my free hand as it dangled.

"Aww," She laughed a little. "Don't be like that! Today's gonna be super great! I promise."

"I'm so sure," I said, forcing a grin.

I sat up, taking a deep breath and grabbing a couple more boxes of gauze before standing up, finally noticing her hair.

"Look at you, looking fancy. I like the new 'do."

"Oh, it's nothing." She said, waving me off. "But you know I had to get spiffy for the event. You never know WHO may show up." She winked, doing a little dance.

Laughing it off, I went past her to the hallway so I could make my way to the huge reception area where everything was taking place. She followed me from station to station, prepping areas for all our new donors. She started to check behind me, making sure everything was good.

"I never did thank you for coming in on such short notice." She said, checking for bandages at a station behind me.

"It's alright, I guess. I could have sworn I took my name off the schedule though, Mel." I stated forwardly, looking directly at her.

She made a sad face. "I knoooow. But Steph called in at the very last minute."

She started fixing the seat protectors on a couple chairs. "But you did ask for it off with no reason. AND... you're one of my best staff, so.' She stuck her tongue out and started to walk away, stopping behind the front desk.

I couldn't help but laugh. Melody was so sweet. She has been one of the best managers I've had since being on my own. And I believe her when she says I'm her best staff here cause she's always bragging on me for having attention to detail and caring about the people we work with. Not to toot my own horn, but... TOOT, TOOT.

As we finished getting things set up, we noticed that time started to roll. The event started at 10:30 am, and people were already starting to line up. There were about 30 people in line before 9:30 and I was kind of surprised, being that this is about the third time I've been apart of this event since working here. We NEVER had that many people show up before 11:30.

"OMG! OMG! This is gonna be a great turn out!" Mel said excitingly.

I didn't know what the big deal was. It only took 10 minutes to draw a pint of blood. What was so exciting about that? I don't know, but if they like it...

At about 9:50, the line had grew, stretching about a mile long and around the corner. DAMN. This was not the normal turn out. I ran over to the refreshment table to make sure we had enough snacks for people so they would have energy after the draw. Now I'm worried.
