One Week Later
"So basically y'all are back on?" Jade asked me.
"Well kinda, I mean you saw it's been going better." I turned to her. She was sitting on her bed while I was sitting on mine. The past week had gone by smoothly for Aubrey and I's relationship. Business was another story. He was tense about everything because of all the threats that were still coming. Even though he was slammed with business, he still made a little bit of time for me. We actually started having sex again, which was good for both of us.
"Have y'all fucked?" She asked.
"Yeah." I laughed.
"Well good." She was about to speak again when someone rang the doorbell. Since we were the only two home we both got up. I walked down the stairs and to the door. Jade stayed at the middle of the stairs, keeping an eye on the door. It was probably a delivery man or something. I pushed a piece of hair behind my ear before opening the door. I paused, unable to form words.
"Riley?" She asked.
"I uh, I don't know." I said stupidly. "H-how did you get here?"
"I got on a plane." She smiled. I stared at her, not believing she was here. "Can I come in?" I thought for a moment, would Aubrey want me to let his mother in.
"I guess." I opened the door and she walked in.
"So you guys are living it up now?" She asked.
"Kinda." I mumbled. I looked up at Jade, who was confused.
"Where's Aubrey?" Mrs. Graham asked as Jade walked down the stairs.
"He should be home soon actually." I told her. I really wasn't sure what to say right now. I didn't expect to see his mom anytime soon. I didn't even know how she knew where we lived. Did she know about Aubrey's business?
"Who's she?" She asked looking at Jade.
"That's Jade." I said leading her to the living room. She took a seat on one of the couches. Just as I was about to say something the front door opened. I sighed and took a seat on the couch, with Jade sitting next to me.
"Riley?" Aubrey yelled.
"Living room." I said. He walked into the room and turned to me.
"Hey, can I se- oh my God." He said once he saw his mother. "Mom?"
"Yep." She smiled. He stood there, taking it all in.
"When did you get here?" He asked.
"Like two seconds ago." She smiled.
"I don't know what to say." He said. During the long silence the front door opened again. Racquel came into the living room a few seconds later.
"Why's is it so quiet? Damn." She laughed, not understanding the awkwardness of the situation. She turned to his mother then back to him. "Who's that Papi?" She whispered. I cringed when she called him that.
"Racquel, go upstairs with Jade." He whispered. "If anyone else comes home take them upstairs." He said. Jade got up and followed Racquel upstairs. Once he heard the door shut he sat where Jade once was.
"So this is what you do now?" She asked.
"What exactly do I do?" He wanted to know what she thought it was.
"You know exactly what you do Aubrey Graham." She said. "You give these prostitutes a place to stay, plus money." She turned to me. "And Riley, you went along with it?"
"I just, I-" I was cut off by Aubrey.
"Mom, this is my life." He sighed. "I've changed."

"You've changed so much, you couldn't call and tell me you were fine? I had to look everywhere on the internet and this is what I find, I thought I taught you better." She glared at both of us. Neither Riley or I knew what to say.
"We're leaving in about 7 months." I mumbled.
"7 months is too long, you need to leave now." She said. "You shouldn't have gotten involved with this anyway."
"It's just a life style." I tried to explained. "Nothing is wrong with it."
"Everything is wrong with it!" She yelled. "You should both be ashamed."
"Ma, it's my fault." I sighed. "Riley told me not to do it, I-I just didn't listen."
"Then why is she still here?' She turned to Riley who's eyes grew wide. She ran her hand across her face.
"I j-just, I don't know." I saw her eyes fill with tears so I quickly grabbed her hand. I knew why Riley stayed, it's because she loves me. She could've gone off on her own but she stayed with me.
"Do you like this?"
"I mean, I would rather be other places." She explained.
"Then why aren't you other places?" My mother asked.
"Cause I love Aubrey." I felt her grip on my hand tighten.
"This is ridiculous, both of you." She picked up her bag and stood. "I hope you both realize how stupid you are." I sighed and rested my head in my hands. I did feel bad for not calling or texting my mom all these years. I didn't want this to happen, I didn't need her seeing what I'd become. It was already bad enough Riley had to be with me.
"Listen mom, I'm sorry about ignoring you." I sighed and covered my face. "But this is my life and it's how I want to live it. I ignored you cause I didn't want you to see this, plus people will do anything to hurt me. I hope once I leave we can see each other again."
"No matter how mad and upset you've made me, you're still my son." She sighed. "I need time to cool off Aubrey."
"Are you staying in town?" I asked.
"For a few days, I'll meet up with you when I'm ready." I nodded. "I need to go before I yell at you." I stood up and walked her to the door.
"Bye ma." She was about to walk past me but she caught me by surprise by hugging me. I wrapped my arms around her small body. I sat there for a minute just taking it in until she released me.
"Bye Aubrey." She gave me a weak smile and made her way out of the door. When she pulled her car out of the driveway I closed the door and ran my hands over my face.
Maybe she was right, 7 months was far too long.
