Although Marco needed to buy some king-sized permanent markers, for reasons he'd instead not say, he couldn't. He had no money. Well, he did have some money, but his mother had hidden it from him, so he wouldn't go out and about using it for mischievous purposes. Somewhere in his mother's closet was a small jar of cash meant for emergencies. His instincts told him to find the money, but after being whooped with La Chancla, he decided against it.
His other option, of course, was to steal from the nearest Dollar Store.
He considered it for a second.
Just a second
Or Maybe he could find one around the house.
He looked in his room, then in the living room, then in the kitchen, and then in the bathroom. Nothing. His parent's room was locked and picking it with a bobby pin would be a hassle. Still, he picked it and when he looked there was no sharpie. Marco looked over to his left. His parent's closet came in to view, but in his mind, a jar full of money came into view.
"Staaarrrr!", Marco called out as he left the room. He down the hall to her room right as she opened the door. Star looked at housemate with curiosity and worry. Even if Star and Marco had been living together for only two weeks, she could already tell when he was up to no good. The two teenagers usually kept their distance when at home. Calling out Star using her real name was a sign of approaching trouble.
"Do you need something, Marco?", Star asked. Her voice was calm and composed with little sign of irritation. Through the same way Star could tell Marco was on his way to trouble, Marco could tell Star was annoyed with him. Star exited her room and shut the door behind her. Her face was neutral.
Yeah, She knows what I'm doing, Marco thought to himself.
"I was just wondering if you could use your wand to make me a couple Kind-Sized Sharpie's?", Marco requested. He automatically thought Star would say no then proceed to move on with her day. He completely forgot about the fact that she was technically an alien. Marco looked at Star's heart cheeks. They were not pained on like he first thought they were.
"What are King-Sized Sharpies?", Star questioned. Marco mentally slapped himself. Why did he expect her to know? Maybe he could explain it to her. Hopefully, she'd get what he meant. Even if the chances of that were slim.
"They're like pencils - Wait no! They're like pens! But thick permanent pens.", he felt satisfied with himself for coming up with such a good description. Star, on the other hand, was still confused. So many questions were going through head. She began to shoot them at him, "Aren't all pens permanent? Why not just grab a regular one? What makes a thick one better? Why do you even want that?".
Marco gave up with her. There was no point in trying anymore. "Oh never mind!", he spat at her. Star gave a 'Hmph!' at him and went back to her room, but Marco didn't hear her. He was already on his way to his room. Once there, Marco opened one of his drawers, looking for a bobby pin. Instead, he found his phone with one new message. He looked to see that it was Oscar asking if he wanted to go to the park with him. Marco immediately saw his chance to get that Sharpie.
Oscar: yo man u wanna meet at the park i just went past it and theres like no one there
Maybe. : Marco
Hey, do you have a king-sized Sharpie on you? : Marco
Oscar: idk y
Reasons. What about cash to buy one? : Marco
Oscar: u already owe me money ask someone else
Oscar was right. Marco did owe him $15. Knowing Oscar, Marco knew he wasn't going to anything from him until he paid up. But Oscar did give Marco an idea. Marco owed Oscar money and a certain someone owed Marco money as well.
Marco got his phone and hit up Jeremy, a bratty kid that boxed with him. They had agreed that for every game Marco won a match against him, Jeremy would give him five dollars and vise versa. Marco had always paid his end of the deal and it was time for Jeremy to pay his.
The phone rang three times before he picked up. "Hello?", his scrawny voice spoke from the other side. Marco got straight to the point "Where's my money, you dweeb. You said five dollars for every match I've won! Where's my twenty?!". The deal was made a couple months ago. During that time, Marco had won 4 matches against him.
"I told you I'd get it too you later!", Jeremy yelled. Marco wasn't having it, "I need it now, meet me at the park at 3:00 with twenty dollars or I'll kick your tiny butt". Jeremy laughed on the other end. "Fine, but not if I kick your butt first!", without another word said, Jeremy hung up. Marco sighed angrily with the fact that now he'd have to fight for a sharpie. As he thought about it, he realized that he wasn't fighting for a sharpie anymore. Now it was about the cash Jeremy had.
