I wake up with a pain in my back from sleeping on the ground. I groan. Perfect. I reach over to my side and grab my glasses. Now I can see. I get up and find my suitcase with my clothes. I'm just going to be unpacking all day, so I put on a pair of sweats and a plain light blue t-shirt. I put my curly hair into a messy bun on top of my head. I walk out into my living room and look at the task at hand. Since I don't have any furniture yet, I'll start with putting the small things away.
The kitchen was easy and I just finished the bathroom. I go to a box labeled 'pictures' and open it. I sit on the ground and take out my pictures one by one. I absolutely love pictures and picture frames and hanging them up. I pick up a picture of Jack and I and smile.
I hear a knock at the door and put the picture on top of the box and go to answer it.
"Josh."
"I made you cookies." He says with a huge smile.
"Why?" I ask. "I mean, thank you, but you didn't have to."
"Let's just say it's a little 'welcome to the neighborhood' gift."
"Thank you, Josh." I don't know if I should hug him or not.
"Well, I'm just going to put these in your kitchen." He says, coming in my house.
"Please, come in." I say sarcastically.
"Nice place you got, AZ Grace." Josh says, walking to the kitchen.
"It's Azalea." I say, correcting him.
"So, AZ Grace, what are your plans for today?" He asks.
"It's Azalea and I'm just unpacking."
"Do you need any help?" Josh says, putting down the cookies.
"Sure!" I say, excited to spend some time with him.
We go into my living room and I sit back down where I was. He sits next to me and grabs a picture.
"Boyfriend?" He asks.
"What?"
He holds up the picture of Jack and I.
"Oh, no. That's just Jack," I say. "He's my brother."
"Oh. Okay, cool."
"Yeah. He's like my best friend. We've always been super close. Even though he's three years older than me. Do you have any siblings?"
"Four sisters and three best friends who are like brothers," He says with a laugh. "You sure do have a lot of pictures." He says.
"I love photos. They're so amazing!"
"I'll help you hang them up."
We start hanging them up and it doesn't even feel awkward between us.
"Josh, you're still pretty much a stranger."
"Yes," He says. "But one you let into your house."
"Very smart decision," I say with a laugh. "But I barely know anything about you."
"Well, what do you want to know?"
"Um," I say. "Just tell me about yourself."
"Okay, I'm 24, I have a pet dog named Bennie, I dropped out of high school, I'm addicted to Coke Zero, and I live next door to a really cute girl with really big glasses. Nerd."
