The ginger tom paced the small clearing, mumbling to himself. "What do we do with him, Moth/whisker?!" spat the tom, "I never wanted a son!" "I- I don't know, Blaze/heart... Should we leave him for Shadow/clan?" meowed the she, curled protectively around a small ginger body, having brown and white highlights. Blaze/heart then sniffed the air, his pupils slimming down. He quickly turned to Moth/whisker, his fur fluffed up twice his size, "Get him deep in the bush, it's a badger!" he hissed. The tan-colored she-cat froze, then grabbed the kit, its mewels of protest clearly heard by the enemy nearby. A large badger crashed into the clearing, flattening all the bushes nearby.
Blaze/heart got ready to pounce, claws uncheathed and teeth bare. The badger had the first attack, knocking over the kit's father and almost squishing his whole body with one paw. Blaze/heart had his breath stole from his lungs, being immobilized, and letting the badger bite on his front paw. Yowls of pain could be heard, alerting the nearby Clan that trouble was spurting nearby. Moth/whisker leaped unexpectedly onto the badger's neck, chomping into the skin through its fur. The badger flipped around wildly, throwing the kit's mother into a tree, snapping her spine. The she-cat's former clanmates watched her head drop at their paws, witnessing the catastrophe happen before their eyes. The Clan cats surrounded the badger, Blaze/heart in its jaws.
[timeskip because I'm lazy]
Over time, the badger fled, obviously outnumbered. The cats were digging two cat-sized holes for the deceased when they heard mewing from a bush. One of the cats, a grey colored cat named Jagged/peak, checked the bush, finding a small, uniquely colored, ginger tom. He brought out the kit, "What do we do with it?" A brown colored she-cat called Oak/river scoffed at the tom, "We bring him back, of course! We can't just leave a kit alone!" "Fair enough." The tom replied.
[Time skip about 6-7 moons]
The ginger kit was now an apprentice, his mentor was a she-cat named Golden/belly. The tom padded up happily to his mentor, "What're we doing today, Golden/belly?" He meowed excitedly. "Today we are doing battle training, Bright/paw. I have a... Special location for it, though..." The young apprentice's eyes glowed with excitement, almost about to run out of camp. The older warrior laughed a bit, then started walking out of camp, Bright/paw following right behind.
Once at the location, Bright/paw immediately realised it was familiar to him. The bushes looked like they were flattened a long time ago... By a large animal. "So, Bright/paw, seem familiar..?" The apprentice hesitated, but nodded in response. Golden/belly sighed, "I knew you would... You see... You aren't fully clanborn. Your mother was Shadow Clan, but your father was a Thunder Clan warrior. This is where we first found you.... Your parents were killed by a badger in a single battle that we attempted to aid." Bright/paw's eyes narrowed, barely able to take in all this information. "So... I'm a Half-Clan cat?" Golden/belly flinched, but eventually responded, "Um.. I presume so..." Bright/paw closed his eyes, his head lowered, "Would it be alright if I had some thinking time here..?" "U- um, sure.. Be back before sunfall." The apprentice stayed silent, but flicked his tail to show that he had heard. The golden she-cat left the ginger tom, heading back to camp.
Bright/paw never returned.
[5 moons later]
Shadow Clan still was wondering what happened to their missing apprentice, Bright/paw. Some presumed he was ambushed by a rouge, some thought badger. None of their guesses were true. Jagged/peak, Bright/paw's adoptive father, had become leader, now Jagged/star. Their were numerous reports of rouge smell near camp. Many cats thought it was the rouge that took Bright/paw. No cat was yet again correct. The rouge watched in the bushes near the entrance of camp, watching as Jagged/star left camp. He silently followed the Shadow Clan leader to the shore line, "J- Jagged/star.. Turn around.." "Hm?" Jagged/star turned around, his eyes stretching wide as he saw the cat before him. It was a ginger tom with light ginger, white and brown highlights on various parts of his body. It was... Him.. He was back...Bright/paw had returned.
"Bright/paw! What happened to you! We were all so worried!" Jagged/star rushed forward, touching muzzles with his adoptive son. "After Golden/belly left me alone.. I thought about what I was told then. I had decided to leave.. I felt like a disgrace to the Clan.. I remembered my parent's names.. And I have gone by my father's name as a loner, Blaze." "But.. Bright/paw.. You don't have to be your father. Be your own self. Be your own loyal warrior." Blaze looked down with guilt, but then back up to the leader with remorse obvious in his eyes. "You're right, but.. Would everyone accept me back..?" "Sure they would! We were still searching for you... Golden/belly felt so guilty for letting you stay, she has retired to the Elder's den now." "Ah, that's good to know.." Jagged/star walked past Blaze, stopping when his son gave him a confused look. "C'mon! Lets get back to the Clan!" The leader's face was full of happiness. "You need a new name, too. You're definetly not an apprentice anymore."
Blaze reluctantly walked into camp, and he almost regretted it when all eyes were on him. Then.. Suddenly.. Everyone rushed over, so glad nothing bad happened to me. I noticed Golden/belly staring at me, guilt full in her eyes. I padded through the crowd, the voices fading as I walked away. "So, you're not dead, huh?" His former mentor made a small, raspy, laugh. "I felt so bad for leaving you.." Blaze touched his muzzle to her ear, "Nothing ever happened to me, I was being a stupid apprentice." "Well, you've definetly aged over the moons." "Ha, so have you, Golden/belly." The two joked, but were interrupted by Jagged/star, "May all cats gather beneath the tree for Clan meeting!" All cats gathered, Blaze sitting in the rear if the group. "We are all rejoicing for the return of our lost apprentice, Bright/paw. But as we can all see, he is no longer an apprentice. I ask Star/clan to give me the power to give this returned member of Shadow/clan his warrior name." Jagged/star looked directly at Blaze, their eyes locked, "Bright/paw, from this moment all, I give you the name Bright/heart. We will always commemorate your loyalty and optimism, and we welcome you as a full warrior of Shadow Clan. Every cat cheered at Bright/heart's new name, "Bright/heart! Bright/heart# Bright/heart!" The new warrior looked around his old clan, realising that Jagged/star's words were right. He wasn't his father, a warrior of Thunder Clan. He was his own warrior, his own cat. Shadow Clan would be his one and only home, and no where else could replace it.
[The Aftermath]
Jagged/star's deputy died from a border clash between Shadow Clan and River Clan. Bright/heath had technically become a 'senior warrior', so Jagged/star had sought him out as his new deputy. When Bright/heart had returned, Jagged/star was only on his last two lives, and one was lost to an invading fox on the border, the other to sickness. With no other cats eligible to, Bright/storm became leader, now Bright/star. When he got his lives, two were from his parents. After the ceremony, they had approached Bright/star. "We're sorry yiu couldn't have had a better life, son.. But Star/clan had plans for you. We see that now. We are so proud of you, of how far you have come. You went from a helpless, nameless kit, to a loyal, fearsome leader of Shadow Clan. Lead your Clan well, and watch out for dangers on your path." Bright/star never forgot his mother's and father's advice, to watch out for dangers on his path. During Bright/star's leadership, every cat respected the Shadow Clan leader. The time of Bright/star was a time of rejoice for Shadow Clan, as they were thriving from many things. His lives were lost in many different ways, 4 being in battle, 3 from illness, 1 from hunger, and his last life was from a badger. The one thing that started this young cat to his journey of leadership was the badger that killed his parents, and his last breath was from a badger. It was a special moment for him, though painful and depressing to the Clan he had left, he was never forgotten. Bright/star was a part of history for a long time, a proud story told by the queens in the nursery of Shadow Clan.Even though it wasn't forever, Bright/storm had changed the course of Shadow Clan.
