"Where exactly are we going?" Briar questioned. I had placed a blindfold on her and was now holding her hand to guide her up the stairs to my bedroom.
"Neverland," I said sarcastically, to which she scoffed before complying.
"Fine," she huffed, silently following me to my bedroom. I placed both hands on her shoulders and scooted her over to my bed, making her sit down before grabbing the box from underneath my bed.
"Happy Birthday," I whispered, carefully lifting up her blindfold to make sure it wouldn't hurt her.
She took the box from me with a feeble hand, staring into my eyes to try and read them. I made sure to keep my expression blank. Her eyes then shifted to the box.
With a small smile, she read the note that was tied on the top, before pulling at the red bow and unfastening the box to the white cushion in which the bracelet resting on.
She silently fingered the rose gold charm bracelet, rubbing her thumb on each of the charms. There was one of her initial, a jewel encrusted 'B', one of an intricate golden feather, a carefully cut family tree, a rose-gold banded heart, a carved golden elephant- because I knew she loved them- a starfish for her beach obsession, and a swallow.
"Why a swallow?" She whispered, looking up at me.
"Because they can always find their way home, so if you have one on you, you will find home," I explained. This was the breaking point for her, as tears spilled freely down her eyes.
"Is it ok? I didn't know if I should get gold or silver, or if you would rather a necklace," I uttered, worried by her lack of words. She placed the box to the side and stood up, wrapping her arms around my neck in a warm embrace. I hugged her back with a sense of relief. She liked the present.
"I don't know what to say..." she shook her head. "I love you, you know that?" She smiled.
"I love you too, Bri," I smiled back, kissing her forehead gently before pulling away. She turned to the box on her head and slipped on the bracelet, wordlessly outstretching her wrist so that I could tighten it for her. I fumbled with the metal clasp, inserting it through the loop closest to her wrist.
"Wanna go downstairs and eat some more of that incredible cake?"
And with that we walked down the stairs and grabbed slices of the incredible chocolate and berry cake, scarfing it down.
"So good," Briar moaned, licking the chocolate off her fingers.
"You have icing on your nose," I chuckled at the dab of brown at the tip of her nostrils.
"Huh?" She looked up, bewildered. I spotted a blush creep up her neck as I wiped the frosting off her nose, taking a lick of the delicious icing.
Both of us burst out laughing, before Abbey entered the room.
"Cake," she ordered, eyeing the dessert. Laughing under my breath, I cut her a slice and served it on a napkin. She hungrily took it, finishing it in seconds.
"What's that?" she questioned, eyeing Briar's charm bracelet with envy.
"Myles' birthday present to me. Isn't it gorgeous?" She said, making me glow with pride on the inside.
"Wow, way to make us all look bad, Mylo," Abbey rolled her eyes, patting my shoulder before exiting the kitchen.
The bracelet got many comments of praise throughout the day, which probably wasn't good for my ego, as Briar so artfully put it.
