Chapter seventeen- You already did

Warnings: Swearing and arguments.

Avery's P.O.V

It's been about two hours since Tom and I shared our little make out session in his office. Since then I've been working away in my office on numerous different documents and files that need to be finished, although I decide that it's a good time for a coffee break.

I get up from my chair and head out of my office and towards the break room. After a short walk down the hall I walk into the break room and see four of my co-workers sitting at one of the round tables talking whilst having their lunch, I send a small smile to one of them as she looks up to see who entered the room. I walk over to the coffee machine and grab a mug to set in the machine before picking what coffee I want, as I press the different buttons I hear the girls talk behind me.

"So how are things with you and Kyle?" I hear one girl ask, "amazing, we are going on a holiday soon, finally getting away for some time just to ourselves" I hear another girl reply. I grab a sugar packed from the cabinet above me as they continue to talk "what about you Maggie, any boys?" I hear the same girl who just spoke ask, I turn around and walk to the bin that is on the other side of the room to put the now empty sugar packet in the bin.

"Well, I do have some news" I hear Maggie say, as I walk back I see her sit up straighter and smile as she is about to tell her friends whatever news she has. "Last Sunday, I got called into work because Mr. Hiddleston and the board were working out some issues caused by some other people in my department" Maggie begins to explain, I listen along as I wait for the coffee machine to finish as now she has caught my attention "so the receptionist down stairs called me and said I basically had to come into work in the next ten minutes, so I got there and did the usual boring meetings with the board and Mr. Hiddleston" she further explains.

"But during the meeting Mr. Hiddleston wouldn't take his eyes off me! I thought maybe I was over thinking so I took no notice but after the meeting when I was packing my things and everyone else had left, it was just Mr. Hiddleston and me in left in the office" Maggie says. Confused, I continue to listen to her story "leaving out all the hot details" she begins to say when she is interrupted by one of the other girls saying "but Maggie, that's the best part!".

"Don't worry, I will tell you at dinner – it isn't work appropriate if you get what I mean" Maggie says as the other girls giggle at her statement. "Basically he couldn't keep his hands off me! And I must admit I couldn't keep my hands off him" I hear Maggie say, I feel my stomach drop at her statement and feel sadness and disappointment wash over me, after what felt like hours the coffee machine is now finished.

I grab my mug firmly and head straight back into my office. I walk quickly in order to avoid having to talk to anyone, I close my door and lock it then walking over to my chair. I sit down and place my cup of coffee on the desk, I place my head in my hands as I feel my eyes begin to water "how could I be so naïve?" I ask myself out loud as the tears stream down my face "he wouldn't change" I say quietly as I get my phone out and call Ellie.

After a couple rings Ellie answers, "hey Ave" I hear her say "Ellie" I begin to say but my voice cracks as a result of trying not to cry "Avery what's wrong? Are you okay?" I hear her panicked voice through the phone "everything, just when I thought Tom and I were in a good place I hear one of my co-workers bragging about how they were all over each other" I say wiping a few tears.

"What the fuck!!" I hear her say, her tone of voice changing from worried to angry "do you want me to come to your work? I have the day off and can spend it with you whilst you work" I hear her say. "That actually sounds really good right now, I will tell reception you're coming" I reply "okay I will leave now, see you soon babes" she replies, we then say goodbye and I wait for her to arrive.

It's been a couple of hours since Ellie arrived at my work, the first thing she did when she got to my office was give me a big hug and reassured me. She also bought me some chocolate which I appreciated but appreciated her company and support much more, she is now sitting in the chair across from me as I sit and make notes on my work as we talk.

"Seriously, I feel so stupid" I tell her, "don't be, you thought you were in a good place and he gave you the wrong impression, anyone would have thought that way because of how he acted around you" she replies. "Thank you E l, seriously I don't know how I would go on if I didn't have you, you're the most amazing friend I could ever ask for" I say "you're practically my sister" I add, "who needs men when we have each other" she says smiling.

We both giggle at her statement when my office door suddenly opens causing Ellie and myself to look over because of the sudden sound. Although once I look over I wish I didn't as I see Tom stand in the door way "Oh Ellie, hi – nice to see you again, I just came in to see if you were still here, I sent out an email letting everyone know they could leave early and everyone else has gone home" Tom explains. I just look down at my desk in reply "well if that's all, you can fuck off now" I hear Ellie say's bluntly "I beg your pardon?" Tom asks, I look up and look at Ellie "you heard me" she says "may I remind you that you're at my company right now" he replies "do I look like I care about your company? No. I care about Avery, something you obviously lack" Ellie replies.

"What on earth are you on about?" Tom asks clearly annoyed at Ellie; I just sit back and observe the both of them. "It's true that money can't buy everything, things such as compassion, loyalty, honesty, kindness – I mean the list goes on, doesn't it Ave?" Ellie says which causes Tom to instantly look over making eye contact with me. "I haven't done anything wrong so I don't know why you're speaking to me as if I have" Tom says which causes Ellie to let out a laugh "you've done nothing wrong! Are you fucking joking?" she says.

"I haven't." he says bluntly, "so messing around with that Maggie girl isn't doing anything wrong?" Ellie asks. "Wha-what?" Tom says "exactly." Ellie says, "c'mon El, let's just go home" I say "I thought you were coming over to mine?" Tom asks in a softer voice "why don't you go ask Maggie" Ellie says, "Avery, whatever Maggie said isn't true" he says walking forward.

I stand up and grab my bag as Ellie follows my actions, "I'm going home with Ellie" is all I say but instead of sounding strong and confident my voice comes across weak. "Avery seriously, you have to believe me' Tom says taking another few steps forward, Ellie walks in front of me leading me towards the door "you've made your bed, now sleep in it." Ellie says to Tom as we walk out making sure he doesn't get any closer to me.

Just as we get to the door I hear Tom say from behind us "I wouldn't do anything to hurt you" I turn around and look at him once again making eye contact.

"You already did." I reply, I then walk away with Ellie so we can head back home.
